Distance from Lave: ~8.7k LY
Ship Status: All major systems still at 100%
I have reached the outer fringes of our Milky Way Galaxy. It is becoming increasingly difficult to push outwards....often times I must trek many light years above or below the Galactic plane in order to find a way further Outward. I have visited 407 systems on this voyage, so far. I have been bludgeoned into the realization that Earth-Like Worlds are PRECIOUS....rare...not to be fought over like the last biscuit, not to be trodden upon like door mats. Used, like napkins, and then tossed aside. No, they are FAR too rare....FAR too precious for that.
I've seen ONE this voyage. ONE.
This realization has only strengthened my resolve NOT to reside in The Bubble. Things that seemed so important to me when I left...which faction to support...how many credits resided in my bank account....seem trivial now. I believe such things would seem trivial to ANYONE who has seen what I have seen the last few days of this voyage. An emptiness....a void....that defies comprehension. A size...and scope...that renders all human related issues back in The Bubble meaningless...trivial. Absolutely insignificant.
No, I will not be returning to stay. If I am fortunate enough to survive an eventual voyage back to inhabited space, I will sell my discoveries to each of the three major political factions of humanity....in the hopes that someone....somewhere....will be enlightened enough...savvy enough....to use the information for the greater good. A fools hope, I'm sure....but one that keeps me going as I press on. I intend to carry on Outwards...until all means of further progress are exhausted. Then, and only then, will I contemplate a change of direction Inwards...back towards inhabited space.
I leave you with a picture that neatly summarizes my current situation....2 small rocky planets holding each other TIGHTLY in a gravitational embrace, almost in FEAR of the blackness....my ship the ISS Phoenecia in close orbit of them both...and what for all intents and purposes is an infinite blackness beyond.

Safe explorations, Commanders.
Commander Himilco, out.
