A warning: fleet carrier storage (on-foot materials) UI is dangerously broken

I think I've identified a bug that explains how I've lost more than a few on-foot materials from the storage in my Fleet Carrier.

If you have material(s) stored on your carrier but have 0 units of the same item in your backpack/ship, the UI doesn't work correctly. Instead of transferring/discarding the item you've highlighted, it processes a completely different item. For transferring this is easily detectable because the numbers for the item you're trying to transfer won't change (and if you hunt around, you can find the item in the list that will actually be transferred), but for discard mode it's not - the game will just randomly discard something else. Imagine you've spent hours battling RNG to gather a certain amount of materials only to find they've mysteriously vanished into the void....

Here's a couple of screenshots explaining what I mean. In the first, I've tried to queue a transfer of 6 Compact Library from the FC to my ship (notice I have 0 units currently on the ship, and let's just ignore the IONISED GAS multiple entries bug and lack of alphabetical sorting for now):

I know, it looks like I haven't done any such thing but I can assure you I pressed the left arrow 6 times. And the CONFIRM ITEMS TRANSFER button is pending. But so is the ASSETS tab - let's see what's going on over there:

Those are what actually got queued for transfer - 6x chemical catalyst. I have no idea why it picked those, except that I have some of them on both the carrier and my ship.

This situation is obviously a lot worse if you're in discard mode, but I didn't want to attempt gathering demonstration screenshots for that because of the risk.
TL,DR; don't transfer all units of any material to your FC until it has been confirmed that the UI has been fixed. Otherwise they are stuck there forever with no way to transfer them back and discarding them risks trashing something completely different instead.

This can also happen in the commodity market from a station. You select a commodity and when the pop-up to select buy/sell amount appears, it's a completely different one.

But for this to happen when discarding stuff in a FC is the most dangerous situation for the bug.

Ugh. I just had to pretty much use the, transfer all for my carrier data store to go-to my ship.

Then I had to edit out to re-deposit what I didn't actually want/need for now.

*Edit I didn't clear my buy/sell orders because I'm lazy. I just wanted to come and complain+confirm the issue.

I didn't realise it was actually moving something else when trying to transfer (explains a few missing items I was sure I had enough of) in the UI, but if I see this happening, I set up a sell order for those items and "buy" them from myself. But yeah, I also make sure I have at least 1 of each on my carrier and on myself at all times now. With having no data trader, it's really annoying to have to do this for some of the ultra hard to come by items just to work around a bug.

Here's another fun bug: the Pioneer Supplies FC module costs a whopping 5m per week to keep active. If you try to recoup some of that cost by applying a tariff, nobody will be able to upgrade any suits or weapons (causes transaction error). This has also been a thing ever since carrier interiors were introduced (over 18 months ago).

THAT's why I can't upgrade weapons on my carrier? I'm happy to ditch the tariff (I run at 1% anyway, no big deal) if it means it will work. I was litterally not an hour ago contemplating ditching Pioneer on my carrier, and just getting my e-breaches elsewhere, which since I can't upgrade weapons was the only reason to have it.
Thanks for the heads up @Ned Flandalorian

I'd just like to confirm with OP that it only seems to affect you if you have 0 of the item in your ship/backpack. So for a current workaround just make sure you always leave at least 1 of anything you want back from your fleet carrier in your ship/backpack

Tested with epinephrine just now.. with 0 it wouldn't transfer and then retested with some in my ship/backpack storage and was able to retrieve the epinephrine on my carrier.

Definitely seems to be. I've had people argue with me that it works fine but never been able to make it work for myself, so I had a think about what could be different... and as soon as I set the tariff to zero (the default price being shown regardless of the tariff level seemed a hint) it worked fine.

Yep, I'm upgrading/engineering an L6 right now, but I didn't bother with the 3-4 upgrade yet as I figured since I'm just scavenging materials at the moment I won't need it. I'll upgrade it when I get to a station either for material missions or if I'm on the way to an engineer for a mod. With your info, instead I set my FC Pioneer tariff to 0 and it worked fine. Nice.

Maybe I'll keep Pioneer Supplies after all ....

Funny you should mention that, the reason I found these bugs is because I've set up my carrier specifically to sell upgrades for the L6 (i.e. focusing on collecting/selling tungsten carbide, weapon components, manufacturing instructions, compressed liquefied gas and weapon schematics). The Leftorium H2B-14M is in HIP 20527 if anyone needs those mats (bring tritium if you want to earn some spending money).

Update 17 Edit: I have disabled the on-foot services for my carrier since all my staff have disappeared, leaving them unusable (no bartender to interact with, nobody at the pioneer supplies desk...)
