a way to turn off repetitive NPC chatter

So it's a pretty simple idea, how about a way to let me not read "surprised you made it this far with a haul like that" for the ten thousandth time. Just a little switch in options so I don't need to read the phrase "I knew I'd find you and all that tasty cargo" ever again in my lifetime. I don't need it anymore. It was useful as a beginner to warn of an incoming pirate, but I'm not worried about pirates now, and I think a small part of me dies when I read the same cheesy line over a thousand times.

Thanks.

How about more flavour text in general instead of removing it outright. Hell, crowdsource it if the in-house writers can't be bothered. It'd be a lot more tolerable to rarely see the same line twice rather than seeing every possible utterance 10 times over with every RES visit.

I would like if cruise liners would stop broadcasting their internal comms to everyone in supercruise though. Just doesn't make any bloody sense.

Call me insane, but killing them acts as a decent off switch.

Less insane, it would be nice for more lines delivered more intelligently.

I guess nobody in the future knows how to write wedding vows.

@Op - Selecting comms frequency would be a nice QoL, ships either auto tune into a Unicom frequency in super cruise, station frequency, military frequency's etc etc, or we have the choice to manually select or mute frequency's.

Way too much text spam from NPC's chatter, internal comms from Passenger liners, NPC patrols open broadcasting that they need fuel etc.. The random background audio chatter is done well, that is what needs to be developed to provide immersion.

+1 to crowd-sourcing. Yes, it'll need reviewing by the Devs due to licensing/profanity regulations, but I'm sure it'd help. Or even allow injecting of a local file which can be crowd-sourced and crowd-distributed.

+1 to not spamming SC with chatter. Maybe hear the vows/cruise announcements if you drop into the same instance. But the idea with the frequencies is better - maybe even need extra equipment to scan the "private" comms - could lead to extra missions/contracts/info?

It was posted in the newbie's forum that in the comms panel you can filter out the local comms text rubbish. All you get is the direct stuff. (Thanks aRJay!)

That doesn't stop the "tasty cargo" etc rubbish but you no longer have to wonder how many liners are out there for there to be so many in the top 1%. :)

No matter what you do to pad the length of the comment tree, NCP pirates are so frequent that we WILL see all the lines pretty quickly, and it will start to get repetitive pretty fast.

Yep, this.

If FD had two guys write lines of text for everything, for like... two hours a day, and worked out a way to implement them without having to patch the game (they draw them from a database for instance) we'd have plenty of variation in a few...weeks?

The NPC patrol's text can be useful, though, particularly if you are smuggling. By watching what they're saying, you can see when they're about to head back to base for a break (i.e. won't be around to scan you). Mind you, my method of smuggling is at full speed, so I wouldn't miss the chatter. :)

I use EDDI, so not only does it appear annoyingly in the comms box as text, i get it spoken to me, and why do they have to tell me that there damn gym is out of action? Surely that is for that Cruise ship only not the entire system?

Yes, those authority patrol reports are ideal for smuggling and finding gaps in patrols. Would still be nice to have a comms panel, tune in and out of frequencies, even the ability to hack into police/military frequencies. Can't quite understand why the cops broadcast on an open frequency.

I'd go with more variety too. The messages serve the purpose of telegraphing what's happening, just as sound and visual cues in other games do.
