Food for thought. Since the very beginning, we always see lots of people saying that the end goal of the game is not to have a bigger ship or to make money. Fair enough, actually enjoying the game is potentially infinite, while if you only play to reach a goal, once you reach it the game is pretty much over. I totally get this philosophy. But the problem is that the same people who argue that progression is not the goal of the game, sometimes say that having more income/cheaper ships would destroy the game's longevity by making it "too easy". Just look at the current vulture price cut outrage for example.
There is a massive dissonance between those two statements. If progression is not the final goal of the game, how could faster progression affect the game's longevity?
I'm not arguing that progression should be faster or slower here. Just that if you really don't care about progression, then your opinion about it doesn't matter. Actually you shouldn't even have one, as faster/slower progression wouldn't affect your experience in any way (unless you're lying to yourself and progression actually matters to you).
So my point is simple: If you want to argue about progression, fine, but you need to at least acknowledge that it matters. If you don't think it does, then thinking that it should be slower/faster doesn't make any sense. So just take a minute to think about this the next time you're going to discuss ship prices and income parity between roles.
