Aargh, no shipyard in Maia?

I wanted to live there too

I have a large fleet now which I wanted to berth in Maia but the Devs chose to leave it without despite the obvious need for one.
And before you forum trolls bite me with you sarky wisdom I've already heard all the "Suck it up noob" style comments gifted to anybody else that dared to suggest this.
I wasn't here during the community goal to add a shipyard to Maia, but really?
It surely can't be beyond the devs to realise that nobody is going to colonise the outposts unless they can build a fleet of ships for different purposes.
I have so far got a Cobra MkIII for smuggling and for collecting large ships over extreme distances (Cheaper to have a Cobra transported than a medium or large ship). I also have an Anaconda for those heavy loads and an Asp explorer for exploration and other long range missions.
I have other ships I use from time to time but these are my main ones. I won't go anywhere without them!

And as for the Colonia migration. There's only Jaques station with a shipyard and that's a poor one at that (Yes I was there). All the other stations so far are outfitted exactly the same barring the inclusion of a black market and/or some other minor facility.
Come on devs. Give us some shipyards, or at least some in game mechanism to force the possible creation of one.

Regards.

It's cheaper to fly there with an Anaconda (or lager) ship, and just transport the modules there, then take back the desired thrusters using the Annie.

Or just transport them back...

Z...

I wanted to relocate to New Yembo but same problem. How can there not be shipyards in Maia or New Yembo? Blaze your own trail...whatever...

Just detach the thrusters and store them then go direct to Palins base and transfer them as modules.

Cheaper, more efficient. Just take a ship with thrusters of the largest type you want to mod. May require a single trip out with a Cutter to do the class 8 ones but for all other ships the Conda is good enough.

THAT is what I did, and always do, you can fit almost anything on the Annie..

To OP: You did find out that there was no shipyard, before you went there, didn't you?... ? :D

Cheers Cmdr's

If you don't mind a small trek, you can move your ships to 64 Arietis or 49 Arietis. Shipyards available in those systems at about 150 lys from Maia. However, what folks have already suggested with module transfer is really the only way.

Bummer, I was hoping to move my fleet there in order to give most of the thrusters a makeover :(

I have literally just done it - I had to transfer one ship for every Thruster Size to XX Arietis and fly them over to Maya just to mount the Thrusters and mod them. Fun times.

I must be an idiot or something. I don't see how transporting thrusters around helps me to store my fleet in Maia.
All my ships are able to reach Maia, but if the nearest shipyard is 150 lyrs away I can't just switch to my murder boat when I need to dispose of some nuisance (as often happens when transporting sensitive data and they send multiple elite assassins in Pythons after me) or commit the occasional murder. Then switch back to my Mission boat for missions. Or pull out the Cobra for the odd bit of fun smuggling etc.

You can request for a new CG to add a shipyard, the fact that nobody has bothered requesting one pretty much sums up the interest in the topic.
I would guess that nobody bothered because, like me, they didn't know.
Also if the facility isn't already there why should anybody want to stick around?
Finally. Where did all the original shipyards come from. Where they all community built?
I somehow doubt it.

No, the moving thrusters is for Professor Palin for the engineer mods. Thats the reason 99% of people go to Maia. There are very few that just stick around because they like it there although there are people that operate in the area for the alien mystery.

No, Maia is very popular for said above 2 things. Most people that have been here a while know because they've been to the engineer. It's also known because as someone said there was a CG to build the station there "Obsidian Orbital" and it was named after Obsidian Ant a popular community streamer.

Here's the vote: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/197846-Name-that-station-The-vote!

The original shipyards were made in the game. Maia (OA) is special as it's one of the maybe 5 or 6 that wasn't generated at the games creation pre 2015

Also Maia is well known for being the only reliable place to buy Meta Alloys, another thing required for both the alien sub-plot and the engineers.

I did it with three ships. I modded my 3A and 3A enhanced thrusters using my 36ly hotrod iCourier, which was not that awful to fly down to Maia. I also flew my Cutter there with its 8A thrusters installed. I forget the jump range on my Cutter, I don't fly it too much, but it took longer to get there than the Courier did.

Every other thruster I own (13 between 4A and 7A) was shipped in to Palin and modified in my 38ly Anaconda before being shipped back out.

That said, I'm all for a shipyard in Maia. Let's have a CG.

Nobody bothered because it's not a big deal, an inconvenience at most. No idea what you mean with the second question: Despite not having a shipyard, Maia has been a busy system since the orbital first appeared, it's not exactly half way across the galaxy.

The Gamma stations and shipyards appeared when the devs created the final galaxy seed. Since then any CG constructed station has had tiers to unlock station facilities.
