Engineers AARRGGGHHH!!! *engineers rant*

So, last night, I finally got around to getting the heavy duty hull reinforcement package (for lightweight alloys) (L5) at Prospector Rest.

I spent over an hour searching for tungsten, after which I felt quite ill, as I don't seem to agree with SRV driving. Anyway, job done, I have three rolls.

Take Vulture to base, select the mod, roll... And a crap roll. All good, I apple it, I have two rolls left. And this roll is better than nothing.

Second roll - GOD ROLL! I can't believe it, I am elated! For the first time in over 500 rolls, I got a "God Roll". Every stat was at least at the top of the blue bar, the hull boost being about 25% beyond the right tip of the stat for it. I very rarely get much beyond average, as the RNG Gods hate me, but, I was over the moon - FINALLY!. I applied it, and then quickly took the Vulture back to Veblen City where I had the engineered reinforced alloys to compare to. I open the outfitting page, and instantly my heart sinks. There is no engineered symbol next to my hull. I check the stats - stock standard.

About 3 hours of my night wasted - worse still, my one and only ever God Roll since the engineers started has just vanished into the black.

As you could imagine, I'm not happy. Yes, I applied the mods, the first one for sure, as the second roll had the stats of the first roll applied to the sliders, so even if I had ditched the second roll by accident (in which case it would be my own fault), the first roll should still have been applied. But nothing.

Yes, but report filed (not like I can actually get that roll back), but I need to rant.

I already hated engineers since the start, but now it's in its own special place in hatred hell.

/vent /rant

OK, I feel better now.

Justified rant ! Ouch ! Have a +1 to soothe the pain ;)

Just for future reference in case you ever need more tungsten... there' a crashed ship on Orrere 2b that has cargo racks that spit out tungsten pretty reliably. It should show up on your nav panel when within 1000ls, if not it's somewhere around 43/-173.

Major bummer! FD can get your mod back. It's a matter of if they want to. A lot depends on which Support rep you get. I hope you get a competent one who cares.

Good luck.

Sadly, I did not take a screen shot, or have any sort of recording running, so I have no proof. Right now I'm happy for them to hopefully identify the bug.

Thanks for this, may just go there and pick up 20 or 30, I have about 40 rolls available, except for Tungsten. That would make it easier to deal with...

HR 4979, planet 2, B ring is a metal-rich ring that is 1.6% tungsten. I have a mining vulture parked in the next-door system, since the 17ly to Shinrarta Dezhra takes it about 5 jumps. A one-hour mining trip in my Vulture gets at least four times what you did in the SUV.

Do you have video capture running. Might help you see if you really did apply it.

These days I have a shopping list of mats. When I'm in the mood I go looking.

Trying to get stuff just when you need it is frowned upon by the RNG gods ;)

Sadly, no, I keep wanting to turn on shadowplay, but keep forgetting about it.

I certainly did at least apply the first roll, as the second roll had the first roll as the base for the sliders. So, even if I didn't apply the second roll by accident, the first roll should still be reflected in my stats - it's not.

You're absolutely certain you applied the roll? Beyond the shadow of a doubt?

I've done over 2,000 Engineering rolls and I've never seen this type of an incident.

Do you have any hull reinforcement packs aboard?

Without a shadow of a doubt. And certainly for the first roll, which, as Is aid, was reflected int he sliders when I made my second roll.

Once a friend of mine made a good FSD roll. He then checked the exact numbers in the outfitting - show modification. To get back he accidentially hit remove mod instead of back ...

The error almost always sits right in front of the screen ...

I see your point OP, but I also sense a mocking tone emerging of the RNG GOD within your story. Maybe, just maybe? the RNG GOD sensed this also, and decided that you lacked "true faith" in him, so he returned the favour in the only way he knows how.

....The error almost always sits right in front of the screen....

Yup, the removal of the mod (intended or not) is what my money's on - I've done thousands of engineer rolls, made up of all grades across all the engineers, and of all the bugs, annoying glitches and instancing problems in Elite that have made me want to scream sometimes.... I've never experienced, nor heard of, a problem with modified module stats not 'sticking'.

I sympathise Zeeman.

I once had a god roll FSD, 55%+ range and no mass increase (important) meant my courier could jump 35ly in a combat loadout and be within the optimal mass of my G5 DDs.
Except somehow I (guess) I managed to sell it whilst swapping in a lighter FSD for a specific setup. Support were really helpful in trying to find it, but by the time I a. realised it had vanished and b. had died a few times there wasn't a 'save' they could pull it back from.
Rng has never given me more than a 50% increase since, with lots of weight attached.

Hopefully the support guys can sort you out.

I think the real story here is not whether there's a bug or user error.

It's about the incredible emotion that gets dredged up by the crazy gambling system of Engineers. There'd be no rant and nothing to be upset about if the outcome was a lot less random.

I've enjoyed the Engineers, but honestly, the "lottery" system gets old, really fast. I've had the experience of doing hours of gathering only to get all bad rolls. It's very disheartening.

Hope you get it sorted, Z.

I did not remove the mod, that is for sure. I did not get that far - there was no engineered symbol next to my hull. Actually, come to think of it, I should check my other ships...

For the record, do I actually need to raise a ticket for this? Or just a bug report? I have not raised a ticket...

Oh boy, tat sucks, I have to say!

Having said that, I'm normally pretty good about dealing with my screw ups. Had I done it myself, I'd have cursed and moaned for about 30 seconds and moved along. I've done it before, losing huge hauls of bounties by staying out for "just one more bounty", and such things. It's the fact it just *vanished* that had me really fuming.

If it's personal stuff, a bug report won't help. A support ticket is what you need.

And the obligatory rant thread, but you've already got that one covered :p
