Engineers AARRGGGHHH!!! *engineers rant*

So...

It would appear that:

...

The error almost always sits right in front of the screen ...

After reading this post below, I had another check of my stats.

...

Do you have any hull reinforcement packs aboard?

Apparently, yes, yes I do. I thought I was strengthening my hull (as I don't have armour). So, it appears I am the idiot in front of the screen, because the roll did, in fact, get applied, to the part I selected. Except, I did not realise the part I was rolling was not what I wanted to roll on.

Regardless, I've now rolled again on my actual hull (which is, once again, a pee poor roll, all the blue bars are right at the bottom), but at least the hull reinforcement package I have has hardened the ship up well beyond what could be expected.

On a more positive note, the thread was worth the vent, as I now know where to get tungsten for another 20 odd rolls.

Now, if anyone knows a good source of modified embedded firmware..

Now, please excuse me, I need to go to a bug report thread an apologise to a dev.

Muwahhaha!

Well found. Glad we got to the bottom of this :)

The game has a few glitches, but this is not one of them. It's a very complex game and one can be forgiven for such an error, but honestly, it takes balls to come out and say you were wrong like this. A lot of people would just abandon the thread if they found that the game did nothing wrong and they ranted for nothing. Sending an apology to the devs? Well done indeed. Those guys have a really really rough time.

RE: Modded Embedded Firmware:

Contact me in game :) Let's do some base raids.

CMDR Name: Redan

You can now get MEFs from missions. They aren't all that common, but they do happen. I think they are Elite level missions, so I think you need to be on good terms with the factions to get them.

Yup base raids are good for it - I've got 50+ MEF stacked up from baserunning (I was targeting CIF at the time!) - if you do a full circuit as Redan's offered to help you with you'll get enough.

Props for holding your hands up when you realised the mistake, and I'm glad you have a god roll on something, even if it's not what you thought!

If you want a silver lining - if the god roll HAD been on the armour, rather than the HRP, you'd be stuck with it on that one type of ship, whereas your mishap means you have a god roll on a module you can transfer to more-or-less whatever you'd like!

I'm always willing to admit my mistakes, and take responsibility.

As for base raids - sure, I'll add you to my friends list as soon as I get online (Barefoot Bandit).

May try and have a look for these missions. I tend to get on good terms with factions quickly these days...

Sadly, it was a 1D, so not a lot of benefit overall! LOL Still, a god roll is a god roll... At least I've had one!

Once a friend of mine made a good FSD roll. He then checked the exact numbers in the outfitting - show modification. To get back he accidentially hit remove mod instead of back ...

I blame the UI more than the player for some of these disasters, especially this one. The UI is commonly filled with little traps like this. I'm less careful in shieldless high-G landings than I am in the main menu when selecting from the Options submenu because Change Your Controls is right next to Erase Ur Dood.

Elite also is not arranged for the mouse E-Slide; wherein you have pressed an evil unwanted button and then "slide" off of it before releasing your mouse to invalidate the click. Elite says "you pressed it, you buy it".

They could have easily made the "remove modification" button on the other side of the screen like the "help" button in the powerplay screens. Or the eng roll screen "adjust" button. ObsidiantAnt missed the "adjust" button feature for years until a week ago. He thought he had to be always "lucky" to get an effect.

Actually, the UI for this game is quite poor. It seems to me that the people doing the UI (generally speaking) are not really UI/UX people. Simply purchasing an item for your ship proves this - there are about 2 steps too many in the process.

The inability to directly bind docking requests, for example, and the need to have scanners on fire groups(!) is also a mild sign of madness, in my humble opinion.

I know they are trying to go for the "flicking lots of switches in a space ship" thing, but that feeling only really works when you build a simpit, and have lots of switches to flick - or at the very least, a HOTAS like the Warthog.

The ease of which one can activate self destruct (it really should require some sort of code), not to mention the location of the "Erase commander" function. Why is that even in the same place as choosing which game mode you want? If anything should be buried deep within the bowls of a UI - that's it.

I do hope it's something they'll work on during next season. They really need to look at the like of, say, and Apple TV. Incredibly simple to navigate, you only need very basic remote, and you don't need to many steps to get to where you want. Though, I think the Apple TV 4 with the sensor thing is a step backwards...

Finally, speaking of UI/UX, and engineers - why is the affect not put plainly in view once you roll? Working out if your FSD has been, in fact, upgraded before actually accepting the roll can be a mission in pealing your fingernails off your fingers.
