Abandon Slavers quest?

So this has happened to me a couple of times now, and I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing wrong.

I get a quest to collect slavers, and I accept it. When I'm out and about, I get a mission update that says "we'll pay you to abandon the quest". So I go to the port provided, and it doesn't give me the mission rewards. I abandon the quest like it asks, and it still doesn't give me the mission rewards.

I've missed out on around 70k (down to less than 20k, so this is quite a bit to me) credits so far because of these frustrating and time wasting quests, could anybody clue me in on what I need to do?

I believe their version of abandon in this case is bringing the slaves to the other destination offered, Either that or It doesn't always work - I know i've done one of these missions successfully in the past, but I ceased trying to complete by abandon because it was flaky.
