Abandon your attempt to kill a pirate!

After encountering the pirate who gave me the counter proposal,I mistakenly abandoned my mission(misclicked out of hastiness) and was prompted to go to the specified station listed in the quest.

My problem is,there is no discard option for the quest and I don't want to complete this mission in case I lose even more of the already affected reputation(since I already abandoned my previous quest).

Will going to the station affect my standing with the faction I go the bounty hunting quest further or whatever damage was done is done and it's safe for me to go there just to get rid of the quest from my transaction tab?

Dunno, but it should be such a small drop that you can grind it back up with little trouble.

I've got one of these counter-proposal missions sitting in my tab as well, would really like to get rid of it considering the fuel cost to get me there will be well over what the damn mission pays...

So if you've already abandoned the mission, the damage is done and might as well turn it in. You can't currently discard it and you will lose rep with the faction who gave you the mission in the first place. Sorry, that's just gonna be a nick on your rep but it's not much and you can make it back quite fast.

When the mission updates, it gives you an alternative target to hunt (traders/system security usually), at which point you continue to kill the pirates you encounter or after the "new" targets proposed. If you choose to take out the alternative targets, you'll loose rep with the original mission faction, but gain with the original targets faction.

I posted about the same problem earlier today. Most of the advise I received was to not go to USS for pirate kill missions. They suggested going to the nav beacon and catch pirates as they enter the system. As for the broken mission strings, we will need for Frontier to see the multitude of posts where players are getting discouraged by the odd mechanics of how the missions currently function. I get that having the mission branch adds depth to the game, but what good is it when the branching ends up causing the opposite effect as to what the player originally intended. Worse yet, there doesn't seem to be a way to clearly reject the offer. Based off my recent experience, if you want to gain reputation with the Federation, take missions from another faction because a USS will flip it into one where you can gain the reputation you originally wanted.

I had one of these.

I found the pirate, he gave me a proposal however I killed him anyway. The mission just sat in my tabs and I couldn't abandon it, no options.

When I eventually went to the system the pirate mentioned in his proposal, it came up in the bulletin board, they still paid me even though said pirate was dead, and the mission cleared from my list.
