abandoned settlements no materials

I am new to the on foot play, though i would give it a try.
went out to abandoned settlements in SWAHKU today, and they had no materials.
tried in open, solo and PG no materials found.

was out here yesterday with friend and found lots of materials.
what gives ?

Did you relog? That clears them out

To reset the materials, just super cruise away for a short distance and then return.

Did you happen to exit to desktop or main menu within range of the settlements? If so, they will be empty upon arrival. Entering supercruise should reset them.

Thanks all. I understand what I was doing to clear the settlement now.

When I removed the power regulator after checking out the settlement, I got immediately attacked just as I exited the building.
I am still level 1 on everything and didn’t stand a chance against 6 to 8….. so I died
What can I do to get my power regulator back without ding ?

Not a lot, as powering a settlement down apparently has scavengers on speed dial - there is always a spawn of them when you do that. Find it a bit silly they immediately know it’s gone down and are there basically instantly, but whatever.

If you are taking reactivations, just leave the regulator they give you behind. Your alternative is to sneak out or immediately leg it(standing in a door when power goes out will lock it open).

Over in the Odyssey Discussion forum there is a thread where people post about equipment available to buy, checking that and reacting quickly is a way to get yourself level 3 gear without needing to engineer things which will help.

Don’t remember, but it has also been some time since I powered a site up then removed the regulator, as I tend to leave it following mission completion. So it might have been, but don’t recall seeing it in patch notes anywhere.

I've been known to ghost a few factions with their regulators in hand, but once I power up a settlement I've never removed the regulator. Pilfered all else, sure.

to reset a settlement you have to hit supercruise. relogging doesn't do it anymore. so take off, hit supercruise, immediately come back out and land again. It's rng whether there are enemies at the abandoned site. if you come in and see them, hit supercruise again and see if the next try has none. If there aren't and you get the power reg, and they show up, try using the ancient "run like hell" method. Parking your ship immediately behind the power station can help .

I prefer to park my SRV close to the power building. If scavs show up, I jump in the SRV, get some distance, then wipe them out with the SRV cannons (in turret mode). That isn't needed as much now that I've upgraded my suits gear. It was essential for me when I first started on-foot gameplay.
