Abandoned ship salvaging/looting

Wouldn't it be cool if they implemented "Ship Salvaging" into the game? Here is my idea. (it’s more like abandoned ship looting rather than salvaging).
While exploring a system, you can find abandoned ships adrift in random parts of the system. You would have to approach the ship and dock with it. I am imagining a docking sequence similar to the movie Interstellar but not as difficult. Since docking is one of the many features of this game, hey, why not? The docking target could be the same target used to dock at a station or outpost. Once docked, you would have to scan the cargo. Once the scan is started, it would trigger a data breach alarm and initiate a self-destruct sequence. Over the loudspeaker: "Data integrity compromised. Self-destruct sequence initiated. You now have 2 minutes to reach minimum safe distance" This gives you 2 minutes to complete the scan, take what you want and can hold, undock and get the heck out of dodge before the ship goes boom. Minimum safe distance is determined based on the size of the ship you are salvaging.
The reason I suggested that the ship explode is because we don’t want a bunch of these looted ships floating around taking up space. New lootable ships would spawn randomly throughout the galaxy and can be found using the discovery scanner.

I like the concept, but it would be great to take it a step further, rather than just cargo, what about ship modules, utility mounts, hard point salvage. The ultimate would be to morph the parts of the ship to your own ship, thereby creating an ASP-conda, or a Cobr-ASP or a Py-conda or the ultimate a Py-conda-ASP. Just imagine interdicting a juicy mark and finding you have poked a stick at the ship with 4 class 1, 10 class 2, 6 class 3 weapons to chew you into tiny pieces. Be down rite awesome - if you are in the beastie!

+1 salvage and explore abandoned ships will add new professions with more gameplay.

Personally I'm not impressed by the ideal. I think it's just a little too complicated. I'd rather see a module that allows you scoop up wreckage from destroyed ships. Then you could see the scavenger running around between conflict zones trying to avoid fire.

I do not really have anything against abandoned ships, just that those do not make too much sense to me.

Tons of scrap in a combat zone, that probably would cause some network issues.

Maybe after combat zone there could be a scrap zone. Lot of scrap naturally, and maybe if you are lucky you could find something more valuable, a wreckage that is not so totally annihilated.

I think that a new salvage/repair role would be interesting. It could include sub-roles as well.

First, the emergency mechanic/rescue role, where the player has AFMU's and maybe even spare modules (powerplant, thrusters, life support, sensors); the bare minimum to get the ship running to the point where it could reach a starport under its own power. There could be USS's with disabled ships in them with NPC's requesting assistance. The player would be paid a fee by the NPC for their assistance. Or the player could be given something similar to a bounty or combat bond and cash it in at a station.

Second, there could be the salvage role, where the player finds an abandoned ship in a WSS or USS and has to repair it to either pilot it back to a starport, or tow it back. This would be an interesting way to acquire ships and could partly explain what happens to our ships after we eject. The player could either fix a ship up for themselves (a fee would have to be paid to transfer ownership) or sell it back to a starport. Larger ships would be more expensive to repair and would require a larger vessel to tow them so that should remedy any concerns about new players getting lucky and acquiring large ships too early.

Third, the scrapper; this player finds wrecked ships that cannot be repaired and using something similar to a refinery bin, scoops up the pieces and melts them down into their base elements. Special modules could be sold as cargo.

As a side note, it would be interesting if when exploring deep space if unknown ships are found; something along the lines of Unknown Artefacts. These ships may or may not be able to be piloted and may simply have to be sold at a starport to make money. For that matter, even when exploring known space, finding ancient ships would be interesting and they could be sold as well.

This could all be done before walking around ships is introduced, but could be expanded afterwards.
