Ability to import custom topography

Personally, Im awful at creating realistic, good looking terrain. If there was a way to import custom as well as real world heightmaps for topography, much like Cities Skylines allows, I think that would be awesome. I could build a park right here in my backyard! It would give players access to an infinite amount of realistic and unique sites to choose from.

I'm all for ucg. There zero reason to be against it so even if this is something i would rarely use, The option would be nice since it's and easy implantation. That said i notice they are not simple texture. They have bevel map and different lod. So this need to be taken into consideration by modders.

how would a "map" editor differ from the current terrain editor? we can already share saved parks with our own terrain. I'm not quite understanding how we would "import real world heightmaps using typography" though. I think all we need is to add terrain to the blueprint tool for when saving designs of coasters and scenery

I posted about this idea before - https://forums.planetcoaster.com/sh...it-work-with-terrain?highlight=saving+terrain

In City Skylines, you can import actual location maps with the game (reference: http://www.pcinvasion.com/how-to-import-maps-cities-skylines)

City: Skylines > Files > MapEditor > Heightmaps.
The next thing to do is launch the game and open the map editor. At the bottom of the screen there’s a button labelled “Import Height Map”. You’ll then see the four files listed. Select a file (whichever looks the most accurate) and press load. The real world location will now populate the 9×9 grid in the editor for further tweaking if needed. This can then be saved and played as the location you originally selected.

I think this is what the OP is talking about.

Sounds like it could be cool [up] I never played CS so I dont know how it would work, but it seems like it could be complicated to add into PCs terrain editor, just based on screenshots CS seems like a simpler game in that regard
