Except when your ship is destroyed, that is, then you can instantly travel half a galaxy.

Lol, good point. let's go hardcore and have it so you have to wait for some ship to come pick you up and take you to the nearest station, for a fee of course. Then you have to spend weeks wrangling with the insurance company. Epic :D

Yeah, it's the gamey-est part of the game. At this point FD should just tell us "yeah, PF-tech clone stuff" and most would say "okay cool, back to game".

I don't support OP's suggestion though, it's too "character-switch" feeling; still gamey, but with better avenues of redress using other system additions. I'd much rather see the travel and ship-delivery services added to solve the per-pilot ship issues, along with an actual set of other CMDR slots for the rest.

More slots gives OP pretty much what he wants, aside from having to work each pilot's progress separately. Three slots would cover a good amount of playstyles; I can't be continually involved in galactic politics and go clear across the galaxy with the same pilot. It'd be nice to have a large range of potential gameplay available at any given session, based on what you've done with your pool of CMDRs.

You could always ask FD to make the journey back to the last station you visited take as long as it would take to fly - I doubt many would want that after trying it once.

Using ships to teleport at will around the Galaxy is a different matter altogether.

Whilst I would like to be able to request one of my stored ships is taken to a particular station or brought to me, I think all Player movement around the galaxy be done by flying (whether directly in your own ship or as a passenger on someone elses).

Nope, do not like at all.

My commander is flying a ship. I log off where I leave the ship, I log on again where I left the ship.

My other ship is indeed significantly more than just 100's ly away but would I want to be able to simple hop into it by logging out/in? Not at all. That would destroy the achievement of exploration for me.

Or how about when you dock at a station and go to log off, you have an option to be taken to station X (costs X amount of Cr, and will take x amount of Tim, you may not log back on till the timer is over)

Koen makes a good point, and one that has always irked me from day-1. If I'm killed 1-jump away from my multi-jump destination, it has always felt very odd to be sent all the way back.

Much better would be to be put in the nearest station (one with a shipyard), and only offered ships that that station can provide - your insurance would 'buy back' the credits spent on the lost ship (where it isn't available at the station). You then have to find and re-purchase the ship, and upgrades.

And no, I can't see this being a popular idea... ;-)

Definitely not, travelling the galaxy gives a true sense of scale. Teleport/ship logging would destroy that.

Absolutely that.
I'm traveling to Sagittarius A* at the moment, and on the first 1000/2000Ly I felt like turning back, feeling lost in the void. It took a big chunk out of me to find the will to carry on. Logging into a different ship docked in a busy area would just kill this feeling I had, ruin the experience of the vastness of space.
Logging with a different character would do the same in my opinion.

Are there any plans to add the ability to move to a different station

Lets say I have my exploration vessel sitting on one side of the galaxy but my trade or combat vessel are hundreds of light years away.

I would like to see an option of paying a fee to have yourself transported to where your other ship is.

Not move the ships just the pilot.

Maybe in the future. Although you can bet it won´t be instant (that would not make any sense anyway). But it could be a good money for convenience sink, pay for transfer before going to sleep and wake up in a different location in the morning (like hour or two to cross a long distance). And only available in "civilized space" of course.
