A lot of CMDRs are not all-arounders; they focus on one or two aspects of gameplay: combat, trade, exploration, CQC.
There have already been many requests by CMDRs to remove the CQC rank from the right panel.
After some thought, I'd like to see things go a bit further. The rank info panel is currently passive; it would be easy to change it so that when it is in focus or mouse-over, ALL ranks display and can be clicked on to highlight/toggle them. Moving focus from the panel then displays only the ranks that are toggled. This would allow for any combination of 0, 1, 2, 3, or all ranks to show.
Additionally, with fewer than the full four ranks showing, I would like to see extra info displayed specific to the toggled ranks: total kills (bounties, skimmers, assassinations, misc kills, everything) for combat maybe, total profit for trade, total estimated value of current exploration data for exploration, kill ratio and prestige for CQC.
When 0 skills are displaying, instead the panel should display... Maybe a quick status/overview of the ship itself? Make, model, average module rating, shields, hull, jump range, etc.
