Wouldn't this open up so many things you could do?

Example - you could click on a star you are facing and bring up information as to what glass it is, the name and plot a route to it etc. Scientific information. This goes for planets, objects, targets.

Maybe a scanner you can use manually.

It would open up all sorts of UI and informational tidbits that keep us "heads up" instead of going into an exterior screen (which is totally unrealistic IMHO). Realistically if you are going to look at a galaxy map VR goggles should drop down or your chair should swivel to a new station or it should be floating in front of you like in station on a transparent screen.

We lack so much information.

The design decision to make everything controllable by a gamepad is a CONSOLE decision not a PC decision. Its time they separated out the complexity the game could possible have by adding mouse and other abilities to the game to provide more information.

No, it's very much a PC decision because it's a VR decision.

ED was developed with VR in mind from the very beginning and thus its UI has been designed to be fully useable without having to take your hands off your controller.

Ugh, no thanks. No need for a mouse pointer floating around in the cockpit. Before you know it they resurrect Clippy again...

"Ting ting"
"It looks like you're mining an asteroid"

Are you always fighting and can't take your hands off your hotas? My my.. being a pilot would be pretty crappy. Couldn't even get up for a cup of coffee let alone check systems in the 33rd century from the tips of your fingers. Too much action eh?

I don't think it should be required for everything, and obviously you'd have to go into 'pointing mode' to use it since by default the mouse is flying the ship. But console/VR players would just be able to move the pointer around with the stick and still use the features.

Nope, everything can be done via a Hotas, for everything else I use macros through voice recognition. I Think everyone made it pretty clear that clicking around with a mouse is a step backwards, not forwards.

New and innovative interfaces are rolling out, I can already verbally instruct my computer to open the galaxy map, type in a system name and plot the course for me, devs will eventually implement support for VR devices like 'glove one' I can point to a star on the horizon, then tell my computer to plot a course. Currently with VR I can just look at any target (in system) then tell the computer to lock on.

Thing is.. (and I admit this is odd) some of the best PVP pilots already use the mouse as their primary method of control so how would you use it with a cursor as well? I guess you could have a toggle key or some such.. hmm.

Not a very good idea, think of the people who fly with a mouse already, you'd need to have a way to toggle mouse flight on/off so you could then hit a control before putting mouse flight back on... Vital seconds lost in a battle to change pip's gets you killed... 'Not a very good idea' is only an opinion though as I fly with HOTAS and can do pretty much everything I need... Oh and of course Immersion!

I think it's a neat idea. Certainly freaked out by so many people going on offense. I want to be able to click on something on a screen, or select target with mouse. Don't want to use it....DON'T. But it doesn't mean other people shouldn't be able to use it.
How many times I've been in a system with many planets/stars/ships in front of you and you can't select what you want...you have to scroll through every target using clunky built in system, or use menus. Don't you think that with technology of Elite pilot should just be able to point at holographic display projected in our cockpit to do certain functions? For god's sake, stop being so silly.
People who play with KB+M could just bring mouse by holding CTRL...just like in many other games. HOTAS users can still use mouse, and you're not in combat ALL the time to use hotkeys. VR users can totally use mouse, not even worth commenting on this.

Not going on the offense here, just don't think it's all that workable due to VR and whatnot.
Works great in say fsx but that's a whole other sim genre.

Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious and dead nuts on the expected results. Of course in the future there is no need to point at anything. Voice recognition should be able to tell what you are looking at and do things to that specific point in space.

Yeah..

I wouldn't mind it since I have no money for HOTAS or voice recognition software (providing that it even would work since my spoken English isn't probably good enough for the software to recognize what I'm saying) and clicking menus(contact list, modules etc.) with mouse would be nicer for me in mid flight, rather than pressing keys repeatedly to get into a specific menu. I don't know about clicking objects in space though, doesn't seem that useful for me.

Toggling mouse on and off in cockpit with some key would be enough, I don't need any automation for it.

Seems like another QOL thing that goes into the "nice to have, but not necessary" atleast in my opinion.

I have a HOTAS, but would not mind if it was at least possible for those who would like that to use the Mouse more.
I do already very often use the mouse in Station menus and the Starmap for example.

I don't see why not? I have a HOTAS and I'd love to use my mouse instead of my hat switches to navigate the side panels, and especially the coms panel.
An option to use the mouse, yes.

Sick of this, get a HOTAS in all these different game threads. I don't have the space... nor will I have the space anytime soon for a HOTAS. I own one and can't use it ATM.

Bring in mouse support, its on a modern PC not having it.

I have a Oculus CV1 and trying to learn to play ED with it... the mouse is so much easier that trying to find keyboard keys, Its not hard to find the blob next to your joystick... would like something better, but nothing exists. The MOUSE is not dead even in VR!

I think I'm going to wind up shelving ED a second time... frustrating looking for keys. I was looking forward to playing ED in VR but now I can't use the mouse, its just screw it... once again.
