Newcomer / Intro Able to upgrade actual "slot" level?

So, I am highly confused because I see people mention that a Type-6 is able to hold 100 cargo. But this confuses me because I look at the internal compartments, and even if I go 16, 16, 16, 16, 8, 4, 4, that only gives me 68... This is further confusing because I read that the Type-6 can carry more than the Asp, but the ASP comes with a 64 rack, then a 32 also. Those two alone seem to carry more than the Type-6. So I am confused, am I able to upgrade the actual compartments so that they can use the bigger cargo racks?

Looks like confusion on my part, the Type 6 can have 2 32s... but its still only 100 cargo, and the wiki says 112, am I still missing something?

Sorry for the spam but the lack of edit (or I am blind).

I am also still confused because the Asp can still hold more.... 100 vs 120.

A standart ship has not the biggest possible cargospaces installed. A class 4 slot has only a class 3 cargospace. You have to uprgade it by your own to class 4. You also do not realy need a discovery scanner in a transporter, you can repace it wit more cargospace too. Maybe you want to install a smaller shield system -> more cargospace.

I guess my questions come from the Wiki, it says the Type-6 can hold more than the asp, but using these two calculations says otherwise.

With a Size 3 Shield unit, you can run 104t. For cargo each size slot is 2 to the power n. So a 5 slot is 2 to the 5 or 32t

32, 32, 16, 16, (8 shield unit), 4, 4 = 104t :)

Asp comes with smaller cargo capacity than Type-6 with default equipment, but the Wiki says that Type-6 has 112 tons maximum cargo capacity and Asp has 128 tons max. capacity. Compare the Maximum/Upgraded capacity, not the Default version capacity.

I think your confusion comes from the fact that the size 5 compartments in the T6 come equipped with Size 4 Cargo Racks (16t). You can upgrade both to Size 5 Cargo Racks (32t each).

And yes, you can fit smaller modules in bigger compartments.

If you can dare it, you could replace the shields with another cargo rack and get even more capacity. But then your life expectancy if attacked will drop from 10 secs to about 3 secs. Also, could be very expensive in repairs if you hit or scrape the station gantry when entering or exiting a station.
