Planet Zoo's species that need the biggest land area of all was polar bear. Am I right? Even bigger land area than African elephants. I wonder why or what's the idea.
Very much this. I play in challenge mode and struggle everytime to build anything that doesnt look ridiculously big compared to species like Caiman, Fennec Fox, Meerkat or Prairie Dog (and a bunch of others). To make it worse, the huge hitboxes futher reduce the walkable area in the enclosure with each rock and plant I place, thus making me build it even bigger.TBH I’ve finally, and reluctantly, made the decision to turn off the space requirements. They make it impossible to make habitats for a lot of species - most notably the dwarf caiman and, even more, the platypus. It wouldn’t be so much of an issue if the space requirements had a less extreme effect on welfare rather than being almost the only factor that substantially influences it.
monitors and, especially, the platypus (amongst others)
smaller creatures needing way to much

Without a doubt, this is one of the biggest design issues in the game. Small animals dominate zoo collections, but in the game all small creatures are either exhibited in glass boxes that are identical in size and shape or end up in huge habitats. The jump from single sized glass boxes to large habitats is ridiculous. This needs to be addressed or every zoo in the game will continue looking unrealistic as long as you play according to intended game mechanics.most notably the dwarf caiman
This is the main reason I use the Planet Zoo plus mod, of all of them it's the most useful. Not only does it majorly shrink the land requirements, it also gives all animals the juvenile hit box sizes so the animals can move about their habitats more realistically. It does mean you have to be careful about escapes as the adults can now wiggle out of a habitat like the juvies do. I don't use the mod for the ride adjustments or anything else (there are an assortment of useful changes) but the space issue is a huge boon.
