About player piracy and those of a more kinder nature.

Hey folks,

so I got interested in ED in the early beta stages and bought beta access late beta. What facinated me about the game was first and foremost SPACE, but also the sandbox nature of it. I was thinking about all the possibilities of player driven content that emerges from sandbox games like this, right now we are lacking proper tools for that, but thats not the point of this post.

It was clear to me that I want to enjoy this game to its fullest by not just trading or exploring but using the combat system aswell. I was looking forward to release player to player interaction with bounties and piracy. There is so much interesting stuff that could happen, player driven convoys to deter pirates, player bounties on pirates and so on. But instead all I read in the forums is post from carebears about how piracy is destroying their game and they would rather self destruct than to give them a profit. (That this is even a viable option is beyond me but okay)

What happend to everyone talking about immersion and lore? The truckers are arguing they don't want to submit themselfs to the playstyle of pirates just so they can have fun. Well I honestly don't understand this mentality. Don't we all have the same tools in this game? Maybe you shouldnt expect to be safe in your flying cargo container and worry about more about your protection. You can always make a profit with a weaponized cobra aswell, but you wan't max profit so you take a defenseless T6/T9 and put all your CR worth of cargo in it, guess what, you are taking a risk here.

Everyone makes it out like pirates are living the kings life here buy just waiting for the cargo to fall into their hands. That might work right now, because everyone is stupid enough to truck millions worth of cargo in anarchy systems. But as soon as pirates leave those systems we are hunted by everyone for that sweet bounty.

I don't understand the argument against player piracy. Am I wrong, is this game not for me? Or should we think about what is causing this?

Please do a search before posting. This has been gone over many many times. Oh and 'carebear'? Really? way to bias the post... and probably get it deleted or merged. (Michael Brookes REALLY doesn't like that term)

I'm not against piracy but you should probably drop the term carebear as that's just going to draw down flames regardless of your intent or meaning behind it.

That said, there are a lot of players who seem, imo, to be coming from a single-player-game background, so being ripped up by a fellow human being is a bit of a shocker for them.
