About shielding...

While building one of my Couriers for combat, I came across a few questions regarding shields.

At the moment, I'm running a shield with two 1A SCB's and I seem to remember that during the last couple of Betas, shield cells were getting nerfed, the buffed, then nerfed again etc....

So, question...
Where are we at with SCB's?
Am I right in thinking that there are diminishing returns for them?
ie. 1 SCB gives the prescribed MW recharge, a second gives a lesser percentage thereof increase, and so on...

So, I've been thinking of swapping to Bi-weaves to save the weight of the SCB's, so that I'd need to run off to recharge, but I'd lose the weight of the SCB's and its associated heat-sinks, thus freeing up a utility slot to fit further defences, and this got me to thinking about shield boosters...

The weight of a booster for a small ship, running tiny shields is the same as a large ship!
A 20% increase in MJ for a class 1 shield is the same weight and power as a 20% increase to a class 7??!!??

Is this fair?!

And resistance-wise, do they work as a percentage of shield strength? If so, the strength of a class 7 or so shield is mind boggling! I've read stuff here about massive shields but never really considered it 'til now.... I'm a bit slow.... hence the name.

Ok, so I'm biased towards the smaller ships but surely some balancing is in order?...
ie. lighter for class 1&2, heavier/ more power required for 5&6 and again for 7+....

With a new beta coming up and with Frontier having said, IIRC, that they were going to revisit shielding, are we going to go through all this again and should I pay more attention this time?

You can now reboot and repair to restore your shields to 50%, even if they are down when you initiate reboot and repair.

About the reboot/repair thing...
True, but not something I ever consider doing...
Not sure if it's because I'm not used to it or some other reason...
but I'd rather not rely on it...

They used to offer a more linear progression of MJ restored, but current class 4s are about where they were prior to 1.5, with those below that being worse and those above that being better.

No.

Each SCB charge restores a certain number of MJs, no matter how many you use simultaneously or in rapid succession...unless you're hit with feedback cascade of course.

You have to be below 50m/s and not take any damage during the reboot/repair to get shields back.

Rarely do I find this useful, considering the setups I tend to run and combat situations I tend to be in, but it's quite handy for prismatic setups fighting NPCs.

I'm going to disagree about the 50 m/s thing, I have been doing it all morning in the CZ between engagements when my shields are left below 40%, I just boost away from the jump in point at 500 m/s, hit repair, then boost again before everything shuts down and comes back with my shields up even if they were broken

Again, speaking from bias, doesn't this mechanic favour the larger, heavily shielded ships?
Those who's shields take longer to refill from broken?

During combat this isn't any help but against NPC's it is a bit useful, once your shields are broken but yoh survived. Instead of waiting 20-30 minutes to re-establish the shields, you can make a reboot and continue the journey.
It's just a quality of life feature.
And class 7+ shields are SUPPOSED to be stronger than class 1-4 shields [haha] so nothing wrong here.
Small ships profit from SCB's very good while big ships with big shields sometimes need all charges of a class 7 SCB just to refill the shields one full time. So balancing is haplening here i think.
