About the Cobra III

I'm planning to finally upgrade to this magnificent beast from my Sidey, but I have a few questions to any Cobra-pilots.

- Due to the two-seat cockpit, the pilot's seat is offset. Does this lead to problems?

- What's the hyperspace range like when equipped and loaded?

- What's a good loadout? I've been thinking Beam lasers and missiles, but missiles have such high ammo prices. I'm still pretty sure that I'm going for 2 C4 beams, because I trul love beam lasers. But what should I get for the C2 hardpoints? Also, how's heat generation with two C4 beams?

- What's the hull and shield durability like, compared to the sidey?

No problems with the cockpit.

Hyperspace range feels about right for a ship of its class. I'm making about 44k on a round trip (five jumps, no refuelling) with a full cargo hold.

Not done much combat in this ship, but my preferred loadout currently is two C4 pulse lasers, and a C2 cannon for general combat in one C2 hardpoint (secondary fire), then a C2 missile rack stuffed with heatseakers in the other C2 hardpoint (secondary fire) for emergencies. I put the canon and missile rack in different fire groups, and switch to the fire group with the missiles if I'm about to get my posterior kicked. Happened the other day on an interdiction when I decided to fight a pirate while I had a full cargo hold. When he started taking chunks out of my hull, those two heatseekers that I popped into him suddenly looked like very good value for money. :D

Not noticed any problems with the cobra off centre cockpit, it can be a bit hairy landing on the pad if you're impatient.

I wish the second seat could be used .. perhaps by another player

- at first it led to landing problems, it's a much bigger ship than a sidey and it handles as such (my god its fast though). You get used to it but I wish it was right hand drive like UK cars.

- with 4x class 2 gatling guns and a full 36 ton load I can make jumps of 6.10LY

As far as load out goes the gatling guns suck. Which is a shame as they look and sound amazing. But I'm on the lookout for 2x c4 pulse lasers and 2x c2 pulse lasers (non gimballed).

As Noodle says the offset pilot seat is no problem ,the main thing to be aware of is the line of fire for the two Class 2 hardpoints so if you place fixed weapons on these you have to adjust aiming points at close range , or mount C1 G weapons on them.

Range seemed fine and it wasn't long before I'd traded enough for the Lakon 6 so profits also must have been ok.

I think the Mk3 is going to be the best "all 'rounder" in the game ,it certainly is at the moment so if you,ve earnt the creds treat yourself, but be aware the greater mass means it handles very differently to a Sidey or Eagle so be a bit careful for the first few docks. :)

Thanks for the information.
I think i'll go with two C4 beams, one rack of missiles, and a C2 cannon.

Oh, and one more question: What's the heat capacity like? Can you run Silent for a long time? And does two beams rapidly lead to overheating?
