About the natural paths

I love the idea of natural roads. However, I do understand the issue that hiding the curbs comes with. How to edit something that is invisible?
If I understands it correctly, the automatic terrain colouring are changeable with the up coming standard terrain colouring tool. Then you don't have any clue were that road are any longer. :-3
Some kind of outline graphics to lit up when you enter the path tools, or any other way to solve it maybe? [happy]

Ah found it.

The idea having no guidance on the side of natural paths is a bit strange and is ruining it a bit. In reality you would build even higher fences, because people uses paths they shouldn't. Thats what it is without curbs.
They have two purposes. First they are a psychological barrier for people not to run where they shouldn't and though the path is natural make a clear distinction between path and scenery for the gardening crew.

You cannot see where the path ends. So you have to build with curbs first. Make the scenery and then replace it.
I see casual users complaining that guests are clipping through scenery or they have problems building.

The natural path without curbs would be a gravel path. I my opinion. A clear sign, as with curbs, you are allowed to walk here.

Tbh I'm a bit confused why some people really don't seem to want people to have choice :S I mean, I understand the reasoning for having curbs/fences on the paths, I really do. But what's so wrong with having a choice? Surely more is better right? :/

Why can't we have both? :S

I wasn't suggesting to take the curbs away, I was just suggesting a choice so those who don't want them can turn it off, that's all.

Sorry, really don't want to sound mean or offend anyone, I'm just genuinely confused lol

There are just people that feel the need to defend a decision. Even when it's not their own. Don't know why but people do it all the time.

I understand the desire for invisible rails. It creates a visual illusion in our parks. First it would allow people to have the plaza look they want. You would also be able to place those invisible paths through our buildings and it would look like people walking naturally and not on a path through the middle of a room.

I'll make sure to only use pre-approved terminology from now on. Should I pre-submit wording to you for approval before posting? Please note when I was referring to an invisiable path I was referring to a natural path without curbs.

The topic is natural path with or without curbs. Not invisible path.
Just a reminder.
It's the same.

Because in the two new paths they showed, the first one is "dirt" and the second is "invisible" (both with two types of borders : white fences or wooden logs), so if they allow us to build these paths without curbs, we will be able to build invisible paths too.

As you can see here :

This can help a lot to feel like it's a path "painted" :

If you could that Frontier, that could be great [yesnod][up]

So the only problem with implementing this is that you wouldn't be able to see where you placed the path if its that invisible one?
I imagine that'd be fairly easy to fix by just bringing the borders up when in path mode.

The natural paths are amaxing, and so unexpected...

totally caught me by surprise also. absolutely love it [yesnod][up]

With the hidden/natural path tool, we can make plaza if we can paint the ground in a path looking color.

ooooh yeeeeesss!!!!!!!!!

Will there be an option to turn off the curbs? I just think the option to not have curbs on the natural paths would be awesome
When they announced "natural" paths, I was expecting NO-CURBS lol... how is it any different from a "new path type"? Natural should mean "invisible" and we choose our own terrain/scenery etc. didn't they say something about making your own staircase out of scenery and turning into a path or something? No curbs AND no railings in a must have option!
Maybe as well as the option to remove the curbs, have the option to alter the curbs to fences or railings...
They mentioned different borders, didn't they? I'm hoping fences and various flagstones... Wouldn't no border OR park manager-chosen item(s) be a different border? (like a simple 4x4 post laying parallel to the path)

That's the one. I think Frontier are hearing us on this. Invisible / selectable / no borders are important to us. Love that "post on the ground" idea. and the flagstone one.

In reality people would just run through the scenery. I guess they are important for the normal players, but they might be in the way for builders.

That's not really the point. If we want to use scenery or buildings or terrain to naturally delineate a path, we don't want to ALSO be forced to accept default path edges.

As far as curbs go, I'd love to see the option to have regularly spaced path lights. They already have those little boxes along some path types, so why not make it so they light up at night.

Nice idea!! +1

Yes, exactly that.

Moving to the suggestions forum. It's a good idea for future consideration. [cool]

thanks Brett.

Maybe hovering over with the mouse highlights the road? (Or have some kind of toggle switch that "Shows hides" path outlines...)

Would go under the assumption when the path tool is active, it allows you the option to see the outlines of the paths.

Yup.

This is what I thought at first when I saw the "natural paths" during the livestream, before realizing that it was "integrated curbs" in fact.

Sorry to bring this post up again, was just wondering if this was being considered, didn't feel there was an appropriate QA to ask on sorry :/

If not I guess we could try and cover the curbs we don't want with scenery/landscape, don't think that would look particularly nice though.
