Newcomer / Intro About to become a new player

I think in the morning i will purchase this game but I have a few questions..

I look at the forum and i see way more threads on xbox one x vs those for PC. Id rather play pc but am worried there is a lack of people playing.. is this something i should fret over?

if I choose xbox is playing with a controller better than a pc with keyboard and mouse? can i play pc with a controller?

I have been watching videos of ED vs other games..billions of places to visit..are they all unique?

3rd person..exactly how much of the game can be played in 3rd person view?

What reason wouldnt you play ED right now? dont say you have been playing since release and there is nothing left to do but more so these few things are just not there for you and you would choose one of the other games out there like eve or SC

if i choose xbox..is the game so vast that it will still seem slow no matter what?

A lot of stuff to answer, i try to keep it brief:

No idea if there are more Players on XBox, but i would prefer it on PC every time, just because i have more options to use different Controllers like
a HOTAS (in my opinion the best/most immersive way to control your ship)
But you can of course use a Controller as well on PC.
About "not enough people playing" i don´t think this is an issue in ED. There is a community, yes, bt Elite is not THAT kind of competitive gameplay that
constantly needs the existence of other players around you.

Yes, the Galaxy is BIG, but i wouldn´t say all places are unique- That´s kind of the reason for exploring: Finding stuff that does NOT look like the system before.
This is not the kind of game that shoves entertainment down your throat ;) It treis its best in being realistic without being to overcomplicated.

No Idea about 3rd person, but as far as i know the game is intended to be played in First Person, "Outside your Vessel" Views are possible, but mainly intended
for "Scenic Pictures" than heated battle actions.

I honestly have no reason not to play it, since it does exactly what i want it do do, and as i said: There is no competition like in other Online Games, that you "might lose track" of what´s op right now. It´s easy to pause the game for a while and return later, and missing nothing (Besides your Fleetcarrier maybe, but that´s an other issue ;))

About Xbox, i don´t think that there is a slowing down, maybe if there is much PvP action in an Asteroid fiel or something like that...

can i play pc with a controller?
Yes

How would we know - only something like 0.001% of systems (never mind planets) have been visited. Many are very similar.

You are sat in your ship / vehicle in 1st person. There is a 3rd party camera, but that is optional.

That is misleading, most people are on pc. Console threads are often about how there are less people on console than pc.

PC vs XBox: probably because most threads happen in the Dangerous Discussion (can be somewhat to moderately toxic) and the other platform independent forums.
You can play with a controller on PC, but controllers are rather limited compared to a HOTAS setup.
Unique: yes and no. They're all random generated, but one icy world is pretty much like another - except for those that aren't.
3rd person: not really. You could use the external camera and lock it on your ship, but you'd miss all the in-cockpit information that way.
Why I wouldn't play right now: for the same reason I am typing my mobile, and later on I need to do some other RL stuff.

Main reason not to become a new player: You want to follow a story and/or don't have time or will to learn a very complicated (but highly rewarding) game. If you thrive in adversity and can make your own goals and motivation, it's a great game. It also feels amazing flying, especially without flight assist!

I actually went from PC with a 2080 rtx and VR to an Xbox. I find the game funner playing on a TV in my recliner. I actually prefer the handheld controller. I may be in the minority! When I'm playing and immersed, it's like I'm playing in VR anyway, my brain shuts off everything around me.

1. Humble Bundle has the game on offer for another 3 days (£5.99 for each - base game and horizons expansion) - so if you can accept using Steam then it is a bargain.

2. The console sections are very specific, PC users are on all of the fora, the PC forum is mainly for trouble-shooting. (Plus the forum moved a while back and a whole mountain of old threads and whole sub-fora were just deleted - so a few year's worth of PC-specific threads are gone.)

3. Controller is fine, so is mouse+KB - so is HOTAS - all good in fact.

4. Many of the populated systems are hand-crafted, outside the "bubble" all of the systems are procedurally generated (not random) with the occasional "manipulation". In effect everywhere is actually "unique" although some are very similar (some are very complex and some are as simple as a single star). The game's galaxy is a sandbox representation of the actual galaxy, not an exact model but a very good approximation.

5. Mainly the game is played in first person view but you can fly your ship in 3rd person - don't do it myself so don't know how "good" that is.

6. I have been playing for over 5 years - nearly every day - still finding new things to do and still learning stuff and still there are a whole host of activities I have never tried (pirating, PvP, BGS gaming, Powerplay, etc...) - So in my opinion the only valid reason for not starting to play Elite Dangerous is the fear of becoming drawn into it.

7. I have no idea what you mean by slow. If you mean slow to complete - it is never "complete". There are no quests and story-arcs that your character has to follow, no "boss" to overcome, no prize or princess to win - just an engaging emulation of a potential lifestyle as a space-ship pilot in the future.

Agree! I have not even touched Half-life: Alyx ... it has just been sitting there in my hard drive ...
Oh that's tragic. Don't get me wrong ... ELITE IS MY LIFE MAN! ... but you've got to find a way to give Alyx a go, it's flippin' sensational.

As for the OP's questions ... all I'll say is (having played Elite on PC almost every day since November 2014) ... GET IT! I sincerely doubt you'll regret it. Oh, and get it with the Horizons expansion too ... well worth it.
