about to lose 68 hours of gameplay

Hi,

i'm one of the casual guys here and i can tell you i'm more than unhappy with the new NPCs.

I am an awfull fighter and i know it. I'm also short on time. So i don't manage to get much better.
Since release day i played for 68 hours. I never used any tools to find top trading routes or cared for any ship builds that are discussed.
I just traveled from system to system earning some credits doing small delivery missions and a little trading.
Ending up with a Cobra Mk III with mediocre equipment and 2 million Credits in the bank. The last days melted my little cash like
ice in the sun. Because i never ever manage to escape any attacker. Now my ship stands in the docking bay of my home planet again
and i do not dare to start. Because the next time i get smashed, i will not be able to rebuy my ship. I will lose everything i played for
the last 1 1/2 years. You can't imagine how disapointed and upset i am right now.

So i beg to you FD, please give people like me a chance to stay in this game.
An option to choose a beginner difficulty level in solo play would be totaly fine for me. I don't need a challange.
I have challanges enough in real life.

Edit: I want to give a short "thank you" for all the help offers i got here and in the private messages.
You are a very generous comunity here. But i will retire for a while and watch what happens in the near future.
I'm so annoyed when i get killed. It's no more fun for me to play Elite when it is hard like this.
I will ship my cargo with Eurotruck Simulator for now. Less pirates on the road and better paint jobs ;)

Stand by for the following:

1: People telling you to "git gud"
2: People telling you this is how the game is supposed to be.
3: People telling you, in many more words, to be less casual.
4: Old salts telling stories of their many achievements in the '84 Elite and how much easier we have it today.

As a fellow casual player who only logs 2-3 hours a week, I feel your pain.

Downgrade all primary modules to D and add A rated thrusters. No NPC will catch you.

Edit: And Deadspin, you do realize that the only person mentioning these things are you, lately...

Edit 2: And OP, if You want help, feel free to contact me in game and we can think of something. :)

Well, 68 hours is nothing in the game like ED. When you will have 680 hours under your belt, it will be much better.
I would suggest to left your Cobra in the hangar and if you have some money, buy a Sidewinder with some better equipment and start pilot training. Maybe some light fights around Nav beacon in some lawfull system (use the Police forces as your partner, fly with them, wait until they almost finish some wanted pirate and than shoot couple of laser bursts to him. He will die shortly and you will receive the bounty. Gradually try to get your money back and buy a decent outfit for your Cobra, but do not fly with this ship until it is decently equipped with A rating internals and good guns. When you will have enough cash for a decent outfitted Cobra, you will be a better pilot.

P.S. If you will post your Cobra current outfit (paste link from coriolis.io) maybe I can help you. Maybe it is somethig wrong with your outfit.

Hmm, not to do any of what deadspin predicted, but I haven't run in to any issues with ridiculous overpowered AI yet.
I even purpose took my 2.0 equipped FDL out to a haz res expecting instant death. But no.
I left an hour later mostly unharmed.... very odd.

A quick question... 68 hours and still struggling for cash for your Cobra Mk III? Not to be rude, but I find that very odd. Lol
I got to a DBS in 3 hours. But that was mainly from v1.4s bounty hunting and missions.
In any case, if you're online when I am (which is rarely these days), I'll happily run escort for you. I can atleast keep them busy while you escape.
I'm sure others will do the same.
I'm currently loitering around Everate.
I can also cover you and help you earn some bounty money of you need a quick cash injection too. Obviously, can't guarantee your safety, but I can do my damned best.
Look me up.

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead.

I really feel like the high security systems should be relative "safe zones".
Interdictions should be very infrequent (because pirates know better), and if you are interdicted, the system security forces should be dropping in to help you in a matter of seconds.

Of course the downside to hanging out there might mean less trading or mission profit, but there's a price to pay for security. :)

I feel your pain. I am on 2 hours a week. May I suggest stick to a Cobra and use its boost speed to escape. Check out the new missions. Good money to be made especially if you rank up with a faction. Try and pick a faction that controls a lot of systems. You can then run missions for them between systems. Fit chaff and point defence.

Have you considered exploring? If you venture far enough, there won't be any AI ships anymore (as far as I know, that is.)

Slander! I've never told anyone that they need to "git gud" in this game, nor have I said the other things. I wasn't even alive in 84...

I'm in a similar position and I've stopped playing for the moment. I was only playing a few hours per month anyway.
I may try again later though.
Playing few hours per month is not enough for the pilot skills necessary even at the beginning in 2.1
Much better is to make even one or two flights (15-30 minutes) daily. Or just try the training part of ED.
Especially at the beginning, as a new pilot, you really need to learn how to do several things automatically, without thinking. It is like driving a car. I you are thinking too long, you will be probably death.

I agree but I don't have the time for that. I just lost an A rated Python to an NPC DBS in about 30 secs. Can't really afford to do that many more times. I probably should just have tried to High wake out but hay ho, too late to worry now. If I try again it'll just be with the Cobra.

Keep a leg in there. FD have been working to get the threat balanced to our combat ranks. There are many groups out there that would be more than happy to get you sorted.

Yes, 2.1 is a reason for any newbie to leave their expensive ships in hangar and training in small and expendables ships.
Personally, I have a nice fleet (as can be seen at INARA, when you click my signature), I have more than 800 hours in ED and I did not tried yet my more expensive ships in ED 2.1. I tried Cobra, Asp and Vulture, I did not lost any ship, but I clearly saw, that I am not skilled enough to fly my Python against NPCs in 2.1

Problem is, that since the beginning until today, the NPCs almost was not flying at all. They was sitting ducks. Now, they finally started to FLY and this can a problem for a big part of players (partly for me too), who was able to make enough cash, buy more expensive ships etc.

2.1 really is a "Back to training" game update.

I've had a bit of a think about your situation SirW. Missions do pay out much more cash now. So choose the easy data or delivery types and hope for the best.
But, the moment you are interdicted run! If you cannot escape due to either being mass locked by a bigger ship or being out run by an upgraded NPC (they are still in game) it could very well all be over im afraid. :(
But seems you have been doing this exact thing(don't know what missions you chosen though). So explore instead ?
Flimley

If you are ok with never looking for a fight and always running away (for now :)) you should be fine in a Cobra once you get top thrusters and shields on it.
The trick is to stay alive long enough to afford them. I would suggest the following for the seriously risk adverse.
Carefully check the systems you are visiting and stick to high security ones. Security make a difference now.
Have your pips set to 2-sys, 4-eng, or the other way round if the ship chasing you packs a punch.
When interdicted, immediately submit instead of playing the mini game to speed up FSD cool down.
Immediately boost when you stop spinning. Keep boosting as soon as you have enough power again.
Jump to the nearest system as soon as your FSD has cooled down.
Never pledge to a power and be extremely careful if you get a bounty (unlikely if you never shoot at anyone)
.
My second commander has been live longer than yours and has never even carried a weapon, let alone fired one so it is possible to play as a pacifist (it does impose a few restrictions).

Because the next time i get smashed, i will not be able to rebuy my ship. I will lose everything i played for
the last 1 1/2 years.

minimize the risks. unpledge if you are pledged. get rid of bounties. maybe take some time off until ia balance is settled. or just fly a sidey for a while. or fly with company. feel free to friend and nudge me for some tonnes of anything or escort if you see me online (pc), and i bet many other cmdrs will be happy to give a hand.

other than that, look at it like this: once you hit the rebuy without enough for insurance, it can't get worse :D you can take advantage of it and do any crazy stuff with no consequence for a while. this will get fixed one way or the other.
