About to start Odyssey: Noob Question

As the title says: can anyone help with a simple question which is just "What CMDR name do I choose, I mean can I choose my original CMDR Name from ED: Horizons?" or will it overwrite my original CMDR Name when Frontier merges Odyssey Alpha / Beta with Elite Dangerous: Horizons at the end of the Alpha / Beta testing phase.

I apologize in advance if I have not posted this in the correct place for answers to my question.

Right now, it's separate from your character. You can choose any name, as far as I know, and it doesn't affect your save file. I do suspect that the character you create will be persistent from phase 1 to phase 3, and in phase 4 they'll integrate your current main character instead to replace it. That's my impression at least.

That's what I suspect - there's never a carry over from beta to release. I don't know if there will be an alpha to beta carry over...

Gentle hints for starting.
1) take the document delivery missions until you can buy the Mav suit & some weapons.
It's alpha - there are points you'll need to logout & back (e.g. after booking a shuttle when the "goodbye" dialogue doesn't trigger and you're stuck at the desk).
2) Have a decent book/video handy for the shuttle flights - it's a BIG system..
3) watch a couple of videos on the basics - there's no other instruction!
4) It's possible that phase 2 will start on Thursday (from today's livestream - but all tentative!)
5) check what the keybindings do for the on foot options - they're not obvious.

Frontier has said during the Alpha Phase 4 "Snapshot of players’ Commanders added to ALPHA"?
Does anyone know what it means?

I think it means that they'll copy your real/main character in your account, just like they do in betas, so you'll get to play odyssey alpha with your normal commander. Right now, it's a temporary. But they won't copy back any progress in phase 4 into the main/real game at release.
