absent for a few months, thinking of coming back..

I left E:D for a awhile-- just got bored with the grind.
Been engrossed in star citizen, but the "alpha-ness" of that game is taking its toll. Thinking of giving E:D another try.
What are the highpoints in new releases over the last 4 months? Last I was on, planetary landings had just come out, carrying small fighter ships was just on the horizon (no pun intended), and ships were all still strictly solo and no ability to get up from the pilot seat. Any of this changed? What are the highpoints of the game since say, the summer?

I guess the big one is Engineers. Not everyone appreciates the fetch-quests they lead to, but I certainly am delighted to have been able to get an FSD upgrade to enable my FdL to jump 21ly.

Ship-launched fighters seem to have gone down well, too, but I've never used them as I don't have the right ships.

FD have added a lot of fluff, but not a right lot of stuff to do with said fluff.

Content is still basically the same as before, they are currently messing with the PvP meta and weapons so don't expect anything new Soon (TM).

lol.. I though "don't expect anything new soon (TM)" was registered to CIG/Star Citizen.... Or maybe "it's coming soon (TM)" ?

wow, so I'm gone for months and the game basically hasn't changed... maybe I'll log in and spend some of my credits ... Any new ships ? Corvette I think was the latest I saw ... or maybe it was a faction-specific ship that was about the size of a 'conda.

by the way, has the alien artifact thing been solved yet?

I suggest you wait til the next patch. Changes coming may mess with things that may annoy you, so its best to wait til we see what changes.

Also the alien/mystery stuff will be able to continue after the patch. Don't ask why. Lots of cool stuff, though.

Personally, I really like the new passenger missions.

Probably would have never seen a geyser if not for them and I certainly would have never bought an Orca xD

Nope, the game is exactly the same as when you left it.

No different station interiors, ship launchable fighters, passenger missions, ATC voice-overs on approach, neutron / white dwarf FSD boosts, SRV's, planetary terrain tweaks, AI overhaul, NPC pilots, POI, geysers, alien ruins, or non-sentient life. A lack of engineered modules, weapons, shields, or special weapon effects. Nothing coming up in the future either like multi-crew, character creator with avatars, or that sort of thing. Makes you wonder what the devs have been getting up to really with that lack of progress.

You could always log on and see for yourself how little progress has been made. Just a thought.

The grind is still going to be there. If you want to make or upgrade as much as possible quickly then you're going to find the same grind you got board with last time. You don't need to do it though. Taken me two years to get enough to buy an Anaconda, but I've been playing for the fun not the cash. Still stuff I haven't had time to do yet and I'm still enjoying the game.

For me, the game just looks "better". Better graphics, better shading, better textures, better looking planets etc. Ship Launched Fighters (SFL) are fun. Passengers missions add more variety. NPC crew mates are pretty good. NPC traffic control give some "life" to the game.

Elite's "could do better" includes - proper crime and punishment system for PVP, better combat challenges for CMDRs that have got the biggest ships in the game, more persistent POI etc

IMO, Elite has come on enough to justify another try.

I just came back after leaving in March '16 - just before Engineers dropped. I tried a quick bit of upgrade via an engineer and well the RNG aspect was off putting and I had NO idea how to apply the upgrade to my other weapons ON THE SAME SHIP. So I will NOT be pursuing much in the Engineer realm. Some of the other upgrades listed are fun - stations, flight control, etc. Interface upgrades in dock are also well done.

However the bugs are still there - first mission I took was a "kill x in y system". Jumped in, scanned the nav beacon to find my guy (around planet 6). Well that worked as advertised so I scoot to planet 6 and loiter around scanning ships and what not. Popped a couple of wanted folks while waiting (Interdiction has gotten WAY more difficult). As time near I hear " target sighted" message....ah....time to roll. Suddenly BOOM I get interdicted and lose, fight off the idiots in their eagles and back to SC. No target to be seen. This happens THREE TIMES IN A ROW...."target sighted" BOOM interdicted, target gone (ah the joy of script based gaming). After an hour of farting around the time expires and mission fails.

9 Months and FD has STILL not fixed the bugged missions....W.....T.......F.......over

I did participate in the CG at LP 339-7 (or whatever it was) on the Mobius instance and that was enjoyable. Chatted with a few folks, winged up once to do some hunting and hauled a bunch of cargo....but the mission thing may be a deal killer AGAIN for me. Will give it another week or two and see if that was just my bad luck or if missions are still SNAFU.

I'm in the same boat. Plus, I can run one and net 1 ~ 10M on average and they're just long enough for me to log in, do my thing and log out for the day.
