Absolutely adore this game

The Space Cowboy is smiling underneath his Stetson along way from anybody else. It's what I imagined 30 years ago and looking forward to landing on planets.

I love it too... I had no idea that dropping the pill will make such a huge difference on the feel of the game. It really is as good as I hoped for.

I was careful enough to prepare the wife well in advance for my new obsession. Since the kickstarter I was telling her every few days how much I played it when I was a kid and how much I've wished for this to be made and how much time I will spend playing it once it is released. By now, she's gotten used to the fact that I will probably spend the next few months trekking the great unknown. I even showed her the co-pilot seat in the Cobra with a grin on my face: "honey, that one's for you, so we can explore together". I don't think she was as excited about that as I was...

Heh, the same thing happened to me. I got a pitying look. :)

Its just the same game as the speccy 1985 original... but with 100 sparkling whistles and 100 shining bells....

20 years ago my wife would look over my shoulder as I played and shake her head at the wire frame graphics...

Last night she stood there for a minute or two and said.... "Oo, that looks quite good..."

A comment like that from someone who normally hisses and bares their fangs, like a vampire backing off from a shard of glistening sunlight bursting past an opened curtain, whenever she sees me playing on the computer..... that's a hell of a compliment.

Perfect, thankyou FD

What a great thread - and I totally agree.

It's absolutely awe-inspiring. Not dumbed down, not 'consoley' but 'rich', detailed and beautiful. As a work of art alone, it's a triumph I think; let alone as an actual game.

I think Frontier Developments have eschewed 'immediate gratification' for depth and longevity. We should applaud them! If only people in other walks of life took a similar stance!

My wife dragged up a chair and watched me fly around! :)

Edit: The game really is like Elite and therefore excellent. Looking forward to how it develops!

Looks like my dream game as well! I REALLY hope it keeps me glued to my screen, entertained and amazed most of the team. Hope some groundbreaking additions happen in the near-to-release future, so i feel that i will have an infinite amount of stuff to catch up to after release! :D

Yep. Always checked on and off over the years to see what the various elite sequel rumours were; the kickstarter appeared, I told my mate and promptly got dispatched to Afghanistan where computer games rapidly disappeared from my consciousness. He bought into kickstarter. I didn't. Next thing I saw of it was Premium Beta on his pc. That was it, bought a rig, bought Premium Beta and have never looked back. Kick myself every day for forgetting it and not putting a fiver in as soon as I found it.... Girlfriend's building her own rig to play it on now!

So yeah, love it right now, will continue to do so for years to come!
