AC4 - Black Flag

I got this on Saturday from Amazon for £20.

It was a bit of a gamble as I haven't played any of the others and I wasn't sure this would be my cup of tea, but I couldn't resist due to the fact it is set in the Caribbean during the early 18th century, which means Pirates!

I've played it for the last three nights running and I have to say, it is the best game I have played in a long time.

There is a huge map which you are free to explore in your ship, lots of different activities (Naval combat (including boarding), whaling, hunting, swordfighting, assassination missions, there is also a crafting element where you have to find or gather resources from hunting to get ship or character upgrades.

Its a real joy to be out at sea when the weather turns bad, you have to face the rogue waves head on else you will lose crew members (I lost 6 on one wave that smashed into my side), Naval combat isn't incredibly deep, but still good fun and challenging when up against some of the bigger ships, or multiple enemies, (those royal navy chaps do like to ram).

The music is great and the voice acting is superb, its very well put together.

I got GTA V when it came out and I have hardly played it, I would say this beats it hands down.

Anyway, if anyone is into the whole pirate genre it's well worth £20

I have it on the PS3, but I imagine on PC it would be even better.

I got it for free with my GPU. It's a lot of fun but it does suffer from numerous problems that have dogged the games since the very first game, but with some new irritants thrown in for good measure. For instance:

Same key used for running as for parkour, meaning lots of accidental running up walls when all you want to do is sprint! I know it comes from a console background but surely even the knowingly lazy Ubisoft could have given us PC gamers two keys.

Combat has been dumbed down even further in this game, meaning you are an utter killing machine and can carve your way through hordes of enemies without taking a hit.

There are some good things too of course, the graphics are really good on PC, especially the water which is some of the best I have ever seen. The ability to free-roam in your ship is good too and the naval combat is fun and visceral but lacks the depth of games such as Sea Dogs. Don't mention the sequels to this though!
