Accessibility and fun with different levels of time commitment

How does these multiple play modes jive with persistence? I imagine at some point player organizations could have ownership or can build something. How does that work with solo players who run into the areas where this is supposed to be?

Beyond that, it is natural that competing against NPCs versus competing against Humans is easier, as is the case in nearly every game. Won't solo players have an advantage then?

ex: I'm transporting valuable cargo across the galaxy. Let me just go into solo mode so no human pirates will destroy me... (while online players have to deal with human threats to their cargo/ship). Seems extremely silly and counter to the immersion the game is trying to achieve.

You are thinking that this is a game where we compete with each other and fight for area dominance. This is not that game.
