Accidentally hitting a System Ship during battles

Obviously, when this happens, I then become "Wanted" and I have to fly back to a station & pay off the fine.

Did I read somewhere that this might be changed in a new patch where you can pay fines on the spot?

I suck at combat and it's the main reason I always need to stop righting & return to base.

This is a thing that is debated daily on these forums.

I personally think you should be allowed a 1 shot grace/forgive in conflict zones and battle areas, maybe get a warning and fine but no criminal record then if within 30 seconds a second shot is fired you are then WANTED. I've lost count even when I'm really really careful of the number of times I've hit system police. It's fair enough trying to be careful put when you fighting NPC's, have human players in the area and trying to avoid that Anaconda

Having to exit and re-enter a zone is so annoying and time consuming.

What's funny is if the game warned you by default, I don't think there would be much of a debate over removing it. I don't think there would be a debate at all.

This seems to be the most commonly suggested workaround but the idea has a major flaw. You have just implemented punishment-free murder.

Get 2-3 players together and attack a trader (human or NPC). Take turns in taking 1 shot each and do not take another shot until the 30 second (or whatever you set the cooldown to) and you can slowly kill anybody you like without any form of penalty.

Not only can you now murder anybody you like but you can use it to exploit the combat rankings too. As the last shot gets the kill and killing ships with a higher combat rating than yourself gets you a bigger combat ranking boost nominate 1 player to always get the last hit in and hunt Elite-rated ships. Now you have a fast-track to an Elite combat ranking. I'm sure that nominated person won't mind sharing the £1000 prize money ;)

This is why whatever mechanic gets implemented needs serious consideration as almost anything you can implement is exploitable.

It will help a lot of folks already on the good path of fire discipline. It won't make it perfect. There will always be someone that is so trigger happy and tunnel vision that no matter what it won't help.

I guess you gentleman shoot many friendlies in air combat sims, right ?...

In any case it is a welcome improvement that will not affect the entire game community nor changes the way the game is played.

I have to say after reading all the good and bad comments about friendly fire, I was against the concept. Now after spending some time Bounty Hunting, I have to say, while it's a pain, it adds a bit of realism if you will. I really have to watch as I'm shooting that someone doesn't fly right in front of me. This sometimes leads to me having to fly back to the station and pay my fine, other times it leads to the suspect managing to use their Frame shift Drive as I could not get a clean shot.

I've bumped into a few also, Especially those Anaconda's, that seems to be their tactics, (NPC ones)

Ever wonder what the inside of a sidewinder looks like

He didn't get to use his frame shift...

I had a situation yesterday where me and a few Fed NPCs were slowly whittling down an Anaconda. Unfortunately, an NPC flew in front of me and I clipped him. Anaconda at 12%, NPCs buzzing around me in an angry manner... what to do, what to do?! Stay and try and get the kill, or run off and collect my other bounties? For me *that's* Elite.
