Newcomer / Intro Accidentally shot a good guy!

Ok, so I'm in a heated fight around a bright sun. This goober gets in front of me as I am firing. All of the sudden I am wanted. I head back to the station and get fired on there too. I shoot through the entrance and quickly land. Just barely make it. I notice I have a fine and I pay it. I leave and I am no longer wanted. What if I went to another system and another station to pay the fine? Would I have been targeted?

Those dogfights in the sun are a pain.

It can get worse: Occasionally, the feds / allies mess up and fly into you. Or you adjust into their path. I haven't gotten the wanted status from doing just that (yet?), but if they are a lot heavier than you are (or if you are carrying explosive cargo, or so I was told), they might instantly kill you! But yeah, watch it when shooting those continuous weapons if you are not the only one engaging... TBH, I think there should be an apology option. I mean, one or two accidental hits... alright, sorry! But when you press the matter, sure give out that wanted status.

I grazed a System Authority Vessel with my gimballed beams while chasing down a bounty the other night. Accrued a 450cr fine, but no wanted status. Perhaps it's based on amount of damage done, or size of fine?

But that is pretty much how it works now since friendly fire was changed. A few stray hits on shields is OK, continuous fire or firing with a heavy weapon is still considered hostile.

Yeah given the money grubbing nature of this world (the only thing stronger than money is people's desire to snuff you out over 200c) you'd think you should be able to pay minor bounties on the spot at a premium, or 'bribe' police to look the other way. You know, guess the figure or i may just end up fragging you anyway...

It's a lot harder now to draw wanted from firing on non-wanted targets but you've still got to be careful. Try keeping an eye on your scanner(radar) and reducing the granularity to a short distance around you, so that if things are coming from your rear/flank you'll spot them on radar first.

Try having a T9 slam into your eagle while fighting off the anaconda you are defending it from ;)

It is really handy to learn to instinctively watch the scanner all the time and read it perfectly. Now that wings are coming it will be even more crucial to have a perfect battlefield awareness.

If you can manage that, no one will just "sneak up into your shot" anymore. :)

You should have seen it before FDev supposedly "fixed" the issue. It's still broke IMO.
