Accidentally turned some setting on while Building ..help

Ok I was building and must have switched something on.. when I want to move a piece up or down it happens in 'jumps'. I don't want this, I want to freely move it up en down, not in Jumps. I hope this makes Sense and someone can Tell me what setting causes this..

Check the "snap" settings for the object you're trying to place.

The snap is the most useful setting for placement of objects IMHO, I'm all the time switching it on and off
