Achenar seems kind of harsh!

Has anybody else gone to check out Achenar in Wikipedia or any other source? It's a pretty extreme system!

Achernar is a bright, blue star with about seven times the mass of the Sun.[5] As determined by the Hipparcos astrometry satellite,[9][10] it is approximately 139 light-years (43 pc) away.[1] It is a main sequence star with a stellar classification of B6 Vep, but is about 3,150 times more luminous than the Sun.

Because of the distorted shape of this star, there is a significant temperature variation by latitude. At the pole, the temperature may be above 20,000 K, while the equator is at or below 10,000 K. The average temperature of the star is about 15,000 K. The high polar temperatures are generating a fast polar wind that is ejecting matter from the star, creating a polar envelope of hot gas and plasma. The entire star is surrounded by an extended envelope that can be detected by its excess infrared emission.[7] The presence of a circumstellar disk of ionized gas is a common feature of Be stars such as this.[12]

Since Achenar system is the heartland of the Empire and the seat of the Emperor, I expect there has to be a garden world in the system. It will be really, really interesting to see where Frontier are placing that planet in a system with a super-bright, blue star with excess heat radiation form the corona.

I bet it will look spectacular, and I can't wait to visit. I hope they'll let a Federal trader scum like me in without too many cavity searches.

I cant wait to see more stars and systems as well! theres a wr star, about 8k lys away with a strange spiral dust formation, scientists think will cause a grb sometime in the future.... as well as nutron, pulsars, and perhaps even cygus x-1!!!

:D Also aren't the Imperials supposed to be wizards at genetic manipulation, and not shy about human modification? Does it mean they look like gorgeous, pitch black supermodels? If I lived in that system, I'd want all the UV protection I can get!

Hmm... now I want to see that as an art direction for the Imperials!

Damn... that would look great, and it would be an awesome twist on the "British / Roman imperial" stuff. No need to change the cultural things one iota, but make them have the look of perfection from deepest Africa.

Hmm... only problem I can see is that some people could see that we're making the "bad guy slavers" black... but IMO it would be a fun plot twist, and give the game yet another unique visual touch. At least the Imperial royalty should look like that :cool:

Hey, I just added the head canon that all the Imperials look good because of genetic manipulation. At least I can use that image to make the idea a little more palatable. (Yeah, I got probed, but at least the people on duty were really pretty)

Wit all the interceptions/random searches that the Feds do in beta right now I'd say that they are the ones you'd have to worry about with the probulator. :D

Hmm... my wife (and fellow space gamer) suggested that maybe the probulator is an Imperial export... but then it's the Feds who are into robotics, so maybe you're correct there :eek:

If I remember correctly the previous games, the colonized worlds in the system were around achenar6 I think..some 60AU out from the star. Makes sense..XD

I wonder if FD is going to simulate the oval star shape..

I'd be gutted if they overlooked that. I bet they'll simulate not only the shape but the glowing corona as well. I hope the jump doesn't take you so close that the bobblehead melts on the dashboard.

Has anybody spotted an Imperial short range fighter in the Beta yet? The change list spoke of them having been added to the game. I wonder if there's an easter egg we're supposed to find...

I want to fly right close to one, and see if there's a dark skinned, 2m tall supermodel flying that thing.

Achenar had a few Earth type planets 3 or 4 iirc but only one was indigenous the others were terraformed. They were very far from the star because of obvious temperature related issues.
