Acronyms - what do they mean?

Hi all,

Can we get some help to compile a list of acronyms and what they refer to in Elite Dangerous? I am struggling to understand some of their importance to the subjects and threads in these forums and need simple explanations.
IMO, IMHO, O7, , OMG, LOL <- these are all easy to understand in context. Others are not so clear, for instance:

META - Most Effective Tactical Approach? - describes optimal load-out and ship configuration for specific situations? or does it mean Meta-Alloy Bulkheads? or the Meta-Data used for Engineering?

This might be a good place to list them all (keep em clean please) or a FAQ page/table???

*** is this about? hahaha even they are in the keep it family friendly checker thingy. :) (Whisky Tango Foxtrott)

Meta isn't an acronym, it refers to meta-gaming, ie the game of trying to work out the most optimal way to play the game, usually here with regards to PvP builds. Although your acronym is quite nice.

Great!

What does META mean and what does it relate to?

... In truth, meta means "beyond" such as in metaphysics - something beyond physics.

In colloquial use (such as on here) it means representing the epitome or most representative or "most effective ..." of something.

So it is actually not an acronym - no matter what initialism people might like. ;)

You don't say? ;)

AFAIK META referrs to a model of different layers.

Let us say you trying to RP your CMDR in Elite is a Layer of perception/action,
then if you play outside the game via opting your fittings for min/maxing you are
meta gaming, since you play the game on another layer, where the game
is creating spreadsheets and comparing loadouts for ships.

It is basically a game outside of the game,
a mind game going so far to quote Duncan Fisher:
"That engagement was decided the moment they left the Tech-bay."

: Frontier'ed Up Beyond Recognition

SNAFU : Situation Normal : All Frontier'ed Up

(These two most commonly heard after major updates)

BFO : Blinding Flash of the Obvious (usually happens when someone finds out what "Never fly without rebuy" really means).

UAFB : Useful As a Football Bat (of no use at all, said of AFK wing mates and healing circle pilots with turrets).
