Acronyms

It would be extremely helpful if people could learn to post the complete phrase at least once in their posts, before using the associated acronym. Sometimes it's a total waste of time wading through a discussion trying to find out what some TLA (Three Letter Acronym) stands for.

There's a poll running at the moment on the forums about bringing back the DDF and DDA and frankly I didn't have a freaking clue what it was about until a few posts down, when someone else who hadn't got a clue, asked for a definition.

So, in future, could we all please do like I did at the end of my first paragraph and put the full phrase at least once in your post, in brackets, so we all know what we're talking about?

Probably wouldn't hurt to have a sticky post defining all the acronyms and cryptic phrasing...

RES - Resource Extraction Site
CG - Community Goal
PP - Powerplay or Power Plant, depending on context
NB - Nav Beacon
CZ - Combat Zone
DB/DBOBE - David Braben
MB - Michael Brookes


Those are all I can think of, for now.

Being an old fart that has never text chatted before now, I agree . In fact I wish they just never happen at all. In game people send these short hand messages and start shooting before I understand what they want .

Oh, there is short hand for piracy, too? I didn't know that...though pirates can't seem to catch on to my SC (Supre Cruise) dance :D

What, is it something like DYCOD? "Drop your cargo or die?" I have no clue...

I think there's a place for using acronyms in in-game conversations, as they are quicker to type if you're not using a headset, but you can always get an almost instant definition if you ask in a live conversation; that isn't always possible if you're reading a long thread on the forums.

Blasted newcomer forum and its usefulness! And it was posted a couple months before I posted in there...shame on me!

TANSTAGI - no idea what it has to do with the game, but it's a good acronym (if acronym is the right word)!
