"Activate Cargo Scanner" - How?

Bought a cargo scanner. Trying to use it when scanning a ship. Just says "Activate Cargo Scanner".

Yes, it has power.

Yes, it's assigned a weapon group.

Yes, I've tried deploying hardpoints w/just the cargo scanner on both primary and secondary.

No, it doesn't work.

Help!

Dumb question, but I'm assuming you're clicking and holding the fire key for either primary/secondary fire groups (whichever it's assigned to)?

Also you have to be within 1km (<1km distance) and remain there until it finishes scanning. Though if you lose track of the target hold the trigger down until you reacquire the target. It slowly degrades so you'll get some of that progress back if you reacquire fast enough.
