Active (in discord voice chat) PVE/PVP Squadron.. does one exist?

Never have I had more of a struggle finding players to group with for an online game. I've got almost 700 hours and almost entirely solo. Joined the 2nd and the 1st highest pop squadrons on inara only to discover that one hasn't had more than 3 active members in game in the last 6 months and the other is a glorified community poster board that acquires members left and right but has no interaction with players whatsoever. IE tons of members online in discord and none of them communicating anything other than welcome posts to new members and the occasional question concerning game and answer provided.. no wings being formed; no group activity of any sort and no voice communication in the king of all voips??
Is this game simply dead and I'm unaware? I love elite dangerous and can't seem to find quality folks to play with..

Thanks,

Hi commander,

I run a small but active squadron (Independence Separatist Fleet), there are usually 3 or 4 people online most evenings and we have a range of events including mining, thargoid hunting, bounty hunting and stations repairs. We are UK based.

Feel free to drop in if you are interested in joining.

HiCMDR Tandrias,
how about one of the largest Federation PMFs out there - the Earth Defense Fleet? Our home systems is located near Sol, we control many systems and are expanding steadily. If you are interested, please check out this thread - especially the comments of our recently joined recruits. Should give you a good idea how we function as a group and what you can expect from us. :) O7 https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...nt-thread-for-the-earth-defense-fleet.518809/

@ CMDR Tandrias - I have a squad, small, personable, and super active. Feel free to check us out at khanslegion.com or message me in game later today. CMDR Goldie Khan

@ Schreyvogl -- I have sent an application via your website Schreyvogl, not heard anything back in 4 days now.

so in the last 3 weeks I've left the wolves of jonai (3 active members in the last 6 months despite inara numbers). was removed from mobius pve for fdev update complications that resulted in my removal???, and the fatherhood was a glorified posterboard of "welcome new member ____ insert name" with no actual groups playing together no one in discord.. I've got 700 hours of solo play and frankly if left to solo i'll just uninstall.
But what is the deal? Where are the player base? asked 5 twitch streamers where/how to find decent folks to play with and got everything from applying via inara to go to shinrarta dezhra in open??? do you have to shout from the rooftops of specific stations to find people who actually enjoy playing the game with others?
Is elite dangerous dead and I just missed the memo?

Check out Nova Force. We have daily events averaging 10-30 people on voice, every. single. night. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...l-levels-apply-at-novaforce-com-today.517714/

Edit: Here is the apply link for easy access https://novaforce.com/apply/
I'm assuming it's closed app ie must go through the application/join process prior to actually meeting/playing with any members? That seems to be the way most squadrons are lined up. Went through the entire application wait a week get approved process to find out that only 3/1720 members have been online in the last 6 months...

Hi Commander Tandrias.
My player faction is called The Alliance Rapid-Reaction Force.
I normally post a full, pre-prepared spiel here telling you all about us and asking you to join, but I don't feel it's appropriate for this occasion.
Instead I'm going to try to explain the phenomenon you are experiencing and why.
The lack of players in open is mostly due to the undue fear of being "ganked" by other players. However this only really happens in popular locations such as Community Goals and Engineer sites, etc..
Players avoid these problems by playing in Private gropups such as Mobius or Solo mode. Hence the lack of players in Open most of the time.
That's the in game reason for the lack of players.
So What's happening in Discord?
Our experience is that more than 70% of people that join us only play a few hours per month. Or else will play solidly for a couple of months, then disappear for several weeks.
Of the 30% that are more active, 50% of them really don't like to interact with the others much, and will really only support the group in lone wolf fashion. This doesn't mean they aren't active. Just not talking much.
Of those that are left. Most will be happy to chatter but not wing up. I really don't know why. This leaves the appearance that there's only a small number of active commanders even though there's actually more.

What you can do to find others to wing up is to fly in open whenever you can. It sounds dangerous, and it is. However, you will meet others in Open and 99% of the Elite galaxy is perfectly safe. In general, if you meet another commander that is doing the same thing you are, they will be hapy to wing up with you.
When you see another hollow square in SC take the initiative. Send them an o7. Start a dialogue and see if you can make a friend.
If you want to find groups that are very active, look into groups like SAP Core, The Alliance Office of Statistics. The SPEAR Network, The East India Trading Company, The Fuel Rats, The Tionisla Historical Society. I could go on forever.
If you want to find active commanders then stop hiding in solo and go out there and meet them. Just remember, Space is big. I mean really big. There's such a lot of it you just don't have the imagination to grasp the enormity of it. Even if all the commanders were online at the same time, you would be hard pressed to bump into more than a couple in a week. Unless you find a place where a lot of commanders are active.
Catch 22?
Much!

o7

Whatever happened to ChaosWulff? His ship reviews were a favorite of mine. I even have his decal on some of my ships on PS4. It's like he just vanished one day...

That's me in a nutshell, though "don't like to interact with the others much" is specific to voice chat. I'm just not a "let's all sit around and talk about real life all day in Discord" kinda guy. I have "real" friends for that, LOL. I play ED to take a break from real life and embrace roleplaying as someone else. I thought I was an outlier, so your 50% statistic is actually refreshing to see.

Now I'm happy to wing up with anyone and assist them in-game, use in-game chat (within reason), etc. I don't see the point of being in a squadron if I wanted to play the lone pilot.

Yes you do have to apply and be approved, but I'm not lying about the daily events and amount of people on voice. Just last night we had trivia night while we were doing wing missions for our faction. We have daily events on voice and actually are as active as we say we are.

Nova Force is very active, there is always something going on. Considering our membership spans the world your more than likely to have someone online. If you decide to apply the process both application and getting approved is super easy. Requirements are pretty tame too. I will be honest with you I have been down this road before. Trying desperately to find a group who actually is online. Finding a group who is active and wants to play with you can be a problem too. My last group I left was like that. Found an amazing place with Nova Force never been happier when playing elite dangerous. So we look forward to your application and I hope to see you in the black.
Fly safe commander.

can confirm. We have most activity around the afternoon EST timezone, but we have members hanging out in voice every day.

Can also confirm with Both Tesla and Boston, Nova Force is super active and a great group of people to play and learn with. Join up and play with us :)

One more from Nova Force confirming their activity. I can't think of a time I've been playing in the last couple weeks when there weren't at least a couple squad folks around. We're definitely active for our daily activities, and usually quite a bit more in general.

I stumbled upon chaoswulff last night in discord after dming him.. he' not playing Elite anymore. not until "something changes"... him and the rest of the wolves of jonai apparently..
