ADC AND SUPERCRUISE ASSIST - Bad idea ?

So I'm like, yay, new modules ! Two new cool modules ! I will most likely use them to run long trade routes or something, make it all automated :D

But why make it a "for the new players" selling point ? I get that bumping into a star is frustrating, same goes for the loop of shame, but that's how you gain experience and skill isn't it ? You learn from your mistakes they say, what about if you can't make any mistakes ? What happens when these new players suddenly decide to sell the modules, swap them for something else ? Won't they be totally lost, making these well known mistakes but with more expensive stuff/ships ?

I don't know... Maybe I'm being too old school, but I feel like automating every single fundamental feature will not help the new players. More than that even, isn't it all bout flying close to a star or going full throttle that makes the first hours so exciting ? I wouldn't want me, as a new player, to miss on that thrill...

The modules are very nice, they will be helpful. But they should be for experienced players, people who want to sit back and relax because they know the drill, they've done it a thousand times. It should be a luxury, not a starting necessity.

Many new players ragequit in the first few hours because they struggle with basic activities like travel and docking.

While I feel like people should learn ‘the hard way’ first, I’m not opposed to these modules at all. If this makes more people stick around, great.

I won’t be equipping these in many of my ships personally, as I often fly PvP builds, but I may consider them for exploration/trade builds.

High sensitivity settings + stick drift = spiraling through supercruise like a madman unless I enter a menu lol.

Sure, I get the rage quits, I did it myself. But that same frustration made me feel even better when I nailed my first landing !

If the players can't handle more aggressive learning curve, elite dangerous maybe isn't the game they want to invest in?

Dunno.

Perhaps it's because I went through the hard Kerbal Space Program school, but Elite landings and orbits etc. are a piece of cake against doing the same in KSP.
So I don't get it why people ragequit on that. Elite is far from easy, I don't want to say that, but the learning curve is radically different. And I personally believe more people quit due to key bindings then due to their first landings * shrugs *

To mis-quote someone .... "I don't want to hear what a 40k LY experienced veteran has to say about Supercruise Assist .... it wasn't made for him"

To Clarify: I'm not having a dig at anyone, so please don't reply as if I have. I'm just making the point that Suprercruise Assist is meant for those brand new to Elite Dangerous, not us experienced players.

That's my point :p it shouldn't be, imo.
Taking away the learning process doesn't make anything easier in the long term

Fully agree with you on the binding part, such a struggle every time lol
Also, ksp is indeed much harder in my opinion, but not comparable with Ed. Both difficult to approach, in different ways.

It is not taking away the learning process, many new players learn to dock by watching how the DC works. Am willing to bet the majority of newcommers are not even aware of the 6s super cruise rule, or the 75% Auto throttle function. Watching how the automation works is a learning process.

Have tutored a lot of newcommers over the years, those that had found out about the 6/7s rule had to search the forums or stumble across a youtube vid

Has anybody tried using the new super-duper DC at a station like, say, Obsidian Orbital - where there's always heaps of ships hanging around - yet?

They do that when they struggle, we probably all did up til now. But having these modules in all starting/new ships, that makes struggling less likely. I guess I'll have to wait and see how people deal with it all ^^

The DC and ADC should both take nearby ships in consideration, same goes for docking traffic.

Uhuh.

I heard them say, on the livestream, that the ADC will enact a queuing system if required.
Just seems like there's often a lot of "queuing" going on at places like OO.

I guess Jacques will create a lot of salt then
It never happened to me, but what happens if your timer runs out and you're still out? Punished for loitering or only revoked docking access?

DC also has a queuing system. I thought they fixed the Beluga problem out in OA? Haven't been there in a few months, tourist ships to the Beacon seemed to have calmed down a lot. Maia was my home system for a while, would always avoid OA.

Never trust the docking computer I say, that thing is definitely trying to end the human race. Seriously though, it's been all smooth for me, maybe I'm lucky.

Well, I was going to fit the new modules to one of my ships and test them out but it'd mean fitting a bigger PP and the game won't let me store my current (engineered) PP so I can fit a bigger one.

Might wanna sort through that storage, unwanted modules can build up over time. Lower-level engineered mods, E rated stuff that gets dumped off when switching parts, etc.
