Could we get a HUD indicator for height above the geoid (basically, a planet's mean ellipsoid), in addition to the height above ground we have now? Or height above whatever mean surface the game considers to be parallel to "level flight".
This is akin to a "height above sea level". The difference between the two height HUD indicators would correspond to a "terrain height above sea level" equivalent type measure. This would give a proper feel for the terrain one is flying over (whether it's a plateau or a crater/depression, a valley or a mountain) and whether one is in ascending or descending flight. It'd create a more acute awareness of the planetary environment. It could even open up possibilities around basic topographic surveying.
