Add a key binding to remove target

When an enemy pops chaff, it is useful to target nothing so your gimballed weapons go into forward firing mode, allowing you to fire "blindly" with them. The only way to do this currently is to use the targeting button but that will sometimes make you lock on to other ships and maybe your allies.

So that is why I'm suggesting a key bind to remove target or stop targeting.

Targeting the target also works and how I always did it. You should already be looking at him in the situation op described.

It's how I use repair limpets

That's interesting - never tried that myself but the logic is sound! You learn something new every day with this game!

Target nothing using the target ahead button. It's easy when the target is wibbling around.

While it can be used to target nothing, the OP already answered that: if there's another target in front of you, you might end up with the other target selected, instead of no target selected.

What actually works reliably is using the "next target in route " button. It might be counter-intuitive but it does the job. That being said, i also would not mind a "deselect any target " button, as it would be more intuitive. People would immediately know what it does, instead of needing to use an obscure workaround.

it already exists... i have a key / button om x52 which does it. in fact i can target a ship without losing the original target, and switch back to original
