Add a message / warning for task-kill combat logging commanders on next start-up

WOW, another thread. How about this....YES, combat logging is bad. DONT DO IT!! NOW, sit back and wait till FDEV does something about it THEN if they don't either...
1. Play on and accept the fact they're not going to fix it.
2. Stop playing and supporting their game.
3. Take the combat log as a WIN and move on.

Think about it...there are tons of CLOG threads with ideas, and suggestions and even better, TESTS of the system to see if their paying attention. STILL, nothing concrete has happened. What good will another thread do!?!

Dunno. Maybe this suggestion is easy to implement and gets a go. It's also entertaining to argue about it while waiting for Beyond.

Lol if you say so...i just don't find it constructive at this point meaning how long it's been since the whole thing became a thing. To each his own. Fly dangerously commanders. o7

The litmus test for this sort of thing is to reverse it. So, if someone accused you of a crime that you didn't commit, would you just sit there and accept it?

To answer your question, yes, I would accept if such a message was shown even after a game crash during PVP combat.

Except that you didn't asnwer the question I asked, you restructured your argument and presented it as your answer.

This normally means that you know the other party has a valid argument and you don't want to admit it, so you answer a different question.

We have been a bit back and forth about whether the suggested message would be offending; I have given you an example of what such a message could look like and told you that I would accept such a message even when falsely 'accused' by such message.

If your question was aiming at general life then it is a bit off topic.

So, what do you think about the suggested message phrasing?

Hello, Eodemos. :)

+1. I'm strongly in favour of some version of this, albeit for different reasons than those discussed.

I've been considering the 'investigations' into logging carried out by SDC. Given who they are, there's no question in my mind that they were looking for ways to exploit whatever mechanics FD had in place to identify and / or deal with loggers. I've also no doubt that SDC - and presumably other, less visible, malicious actors - are still hunting for exploits.

If anyone should find - or have already found - a way to bounce other players out of the game, in a way that looks like logging, then I rather think those targetted players should be informed immediately. They can then raise a complaint with support, if they feel the other side's been engaging in deliberate shenanigans.

As far as messages go, a gentle reminder that intentional logging is unsporting and inappropriate behaviour seems fair enough to me, so long as it's clearly worded for the whole community, rather than any one person. I think including links to help pages covering network optimisation and Windows diagnostic and troubleshooting tips would be a positive and helpful thing. :)

The members of SDC that I know are friendly folks with some of them involved in player groups like PVP hub and GCI for the benefit of the PVP community. And maybe I misunderstand something but you don't really need an exploit to identify loggers when they log on you although it can lead to false accusations. I'd say it's not so much about identifying combat loggers, it's about eliminating or reducing combat logging. Any 'naming and shaming' initiative was really meant as a deterrent to prevent others from going down that path while there were/are no other effective means. This suggestion is another prevention attempt.

Agree.
