Add an 'exit' to the Alliance!

To help even out the Alliance in power play you could introduce a new power who took a small/medium sized chunk out of the alliance. The power could be somewhere in-between the Federation and Alliance as far as values go. They could be less happy go lucky and more practical minded. If you add Alliance ships this power could be the reason why you would add them.

The biggest reason to do this though is that the Alliance a large and unfair advantage over the other two super powers in that every player who is aligned has to pick or choose between multiple powers and the Alliance only has one which allows them to consolidate their player base unfairly. On top of this they have it the easiest as far as competing powers as it has basically been protected by the Federation powers for most of the games life.

split them, if you can't beat them?

the alliance as a superpower
- has no ships. people are working for it because they choose so freely
- in every combat CG the federation wins, and i think it is highly likely that many commanders ranking in the navy for the ships also pledging to federal powers

as for powerplay
- mahon is a strong contender for having the most useless powerplay modul and the most useless powerplay bonus. he is missing out all those supporters who pledge first time for some modul --- or for a bonus
- the "happy go lucky" field is already quite busy with the sim-guy and the exploration friendly sirius corp ceo ...

= the success of mahon in powerplay is down to the people making it. if you want this success for your power, learn from it.

disclaimer:
i'm not a fan of mahon, not pledged, and i'm not even a strong supporter of the alliance (beside freemen factions).

the issue is, empire and federation shouldn't exist as a superpower, they are more like gouvernemnts at all. Why would 2 empire and 2 federation powers even fight at each other?

In the end it is again a badly imlemented basic mechanic without any depth of deisgn. I wodner anyways what we need them for, just for a bit news fullf? get rid of superpowers and let palyers pledge to any regula faction and then make some news about them.

The Alliance is relatively small to the other 2. But enough to tip the balance and that's where their main strength is.

But that said, they need something to compete with the others.

Hardly, they succeed because they have much greater advantages. Other powers have more organized player groups, more productive player groups, have more players, and have better incentives. Not to hard to get to the truth of it.

Imagine if you consolidated all the Empire powers into one and how easy it would be for them.

Currently in the current state of power play it favors the Alliance especially since it should have as many different powers as the Empire due to it being based around Europe.

There is a reason there was a mass quiting of power play by Federation players as a protest it wasn't because of lack of effort, it was the lopsided advantages.

You're talking from Sheer ignorance. You have no idea how organised any other power is apart from your own, nor do you know how dedicated the playerbase is.

The gentleman above has delivered multiple and irrefutable examples of why the Alliance is at a disadvantage. You've delivered 0. If you have a genuine concern I would love to hear it, but otherwise this kind of whiny moaning is the reason I run so many forts every week.

Glorious.

You make it sound like each faction has super secret closed meetings — The information is all over the internet if you're willing to look for it. The subreddits for example.

Where have you found data for player numbers?

So independent?.......which already exists and is like this? if a system doesn't want to be part of any of the three major powers they can be independent?

Gather it is meant as a brexit joke, but yeah, a very poor one if you ask me.

This OP gave me the first good laugh in regards to PP since a long time. Adorable.
More serious, there is not much to add to goemon's analysis.

PS That's a good one:
Hail Vectron!

Shame the search function here is such garbage.

Somebody triggered Vectron last year on this topic and he posted a great rant.
Roughly to the effect that: "Mahon doesn't sit at the top of the PowerPlay ladder by levitation - that's a metric tonne of work you are looking at by a dedicated, organised, and efficient playegroup"

Profanity filter took out the word before "tonne"
I was looking for the gif of Tom Cruise from Oblivion to go with "What?"

Nevermind - found a video that kinda makes the point. And updated the front page post.

Or you can extrapolate participation from numbers during updates. Also plenty of people including me 5th column. Regardless there was a reason there was a mass exodus of Hudson pledges and it is very obvious as to when as his state was being perpetually number 2 to where he is at now.

Except he was wrong on the only key issue.

I think it's important to address these concerns about Power Play, because, if this isn't handled immediately by Frontier . . . uh . . . I got nothin'.

I find it genuinely amusing that on a morning where there are multiple threads whining about how Frontier needs to focus on more important things in terms of gameplay value, someone actually wants work done on Power Play, which is pretty much the equivalent of watching paint dry. Fine, the Alliance has officially won Power Play, congrats guys, enjoy it.
