Add an 'exit' to the Alliance!

There's a mechanism for what Heath wants: The Rise to Power games.

It would only take a ton of support by Alliance CMDRs to win the next games and have a second Alliance power.
And there are good strategic things that could be done with a second power.
So you might find that instead of splitting the playerbase like you hope, that the folks upstairs at the Alliance turn it to their advantage.
 
I don't remember being protected from the feds.

I do remember kicking their bum after they broke the treaty though, despite a big disadvantage in number of supporters.

You claim that the unified playerbase is a meaningful advantage, as if the Alliance ended up with a bigger number of supporters. Noone other than Arissa had more supporters than Hudson alone and it wasn't until very recently that the Mahon playerbase grew larger than Winter's.

And as soon as they start talking about establishing their first expansion station, some sub-faction will decide it's not a good deal after all and propose a second vote to tell the splitters to get bent so they can stay in the Alliance ;)

so the only way to weaken the alliance is to make a huge secong alliance aligned player group composed of non alliance people, raise it until it is a alliance power in the big play and then return to their original powers when enough real alliance players went over to the made up scond alliance power thats only purpose is to weaken the originally only existing alliance power?

Who would have thought that a power with no selling point other than unity beyond petty differences would demonstrate that unity from the players who joined for no other reason other than enforcing that ideal, amiright?

And yes, pretty much. The issue is that you dont get to raise a power big with randoms in the current state of PP (ignoring its shortcomings as a feature, this applies), so even that might be a fruitless attempt at divine intervention.

The key issue you see is that Mahon did better with fewer supporters but with more coordination for most of the time? Especially since both Hudson's and Winters' were larger in numbers.

I characterise the Alliance playerbase as those that are interested in Governance rather than Conflict.

In terms of local government the Alliance has grown by about three hundred systems while the Feds and Empire have lost 250 and 200 respectively. The difference being made up by independents. With about 250 playergroups added to the game, this kinda indicates who is serious about working the BGS for change. Not just to flip a control bubble to low fortification, but to paint the galaxy green regardless of Mahon.

The figures come from percentages given by Dav Stott in the most recent BGS livestream and then multiplied by 19,000 inhabited systems.

I'm not sure if I'm reading Heath's post correctly as "The Alliance are winning, let's nerf them" but I might suggest that the Alliance are the ones playing the BGS like it counts.

No. Where the alliance is now is a result of diplomacy hard work and careful planning, to take that away would completely negate any meaning of power play. Not to mention power play has a nonexistent collapse mechanism.
 
I'm not coming downstairs unless its for something worthwhile.
