Add social features for player interaction on foot.

I was a bit surprised that there's no support for social interaction in Odyssey, and I really hope to see something appear on the road map at the end of the week around this. Clearly there are emotes and idle animations for NPCs; players should have access to these and a few more. Every other MMO I play has some form of the following, and Odyssey should to.

1. Sit: Yes, I know we just got our legs, but there are all these places to sit in stations and we can't use any of them.

2. Drink. We have bartenders. We have bars. We have long flights on Apex. So...

3. Emote Gestures: Let's not go overboard with cheesy animations and especially not forced emotes, but a basic handful of gestures to complement local and team conversations.

4. Emote Postures: Give commanders postures and idle animations to indicate their state and approachability. Things like talking, reading, sleeping (we know this one exists), happy, angry, sad, etc.

5. Chat Bubbles: If a person sends a message and it's in a channel I can see, there should be the option for me to see this as a chat bubble on that person. In other games, some people love this and some people hate it, so it needs to be an option. I'd go one step further; if the player is sending a message that you cannot see and you have chat bubbles on, play a conversation animation and show a "..." chat bubble. Show me that there's activity around me even if I can't see it directly.

6. Works standing up or sitting down: Most of these things need to work if they player is seated, either in the station, the cockpit, or the passenger cabin.

7. This is a much more nebulous idea. I haven't used Apex much, and I'm wondering if there's room to add in-flight entertainment. The usual things like drinking, watching videos, and maybe small social minigames. I don't know if it's possible now, but building a cockpit or a passenger cabin where a full team can travel--and play--together might make taking Apex an interesting alternative to everybody meeting at the destination in their own ships. Maybe even have the occasional party bus scenario where we are the passengers in PAX.

Definitely.

The irony of course that we waited 6 years for space legs and now we want to sit!

But imagine how much more immersive these social spaces would be if we could actually interact with things

I met my mate in Cubeo the other day. We wandered around each other for five minutes before realising we were better off back in discord.

We need something, come on!

PS. I realise this is a low priority right now.

Did you try crouching and standing back up?

Or... Standing up then crouching?

How about having food, a meal in a cafeteria or a snack machine.

Also have a hotel type cabins we book and rest in as a pause (Player go make a drink or toilet), when we are waiting for our ships to arrive via Apex delivery or just rest.

Our Caricatures must suffer food/sleep deprivation, thus having food and sleep we gain some rep for renting cabins and buying food at factions stations/settlements.

I agree but I honestly think the game is probably going to need a couple years to fix and polish what is currently on offer before they can realistically even think about adding anything else. I think the reality was the expansion was too ambitious for the team with the time frame they had so now we get to play it as they work on it.

You could always use / adapt "Belter" hand signals (or more prosaically Earth divers' signals). ;)

Yes, I know, you actually can't - but it would be neat if we could.

Some hand signals to communicate and emote with would be super cool

Especially when we totally absolutely are definitely getting EVA gameplayyyyyyyyy....

I'm not sure about having all of that as required actions. Survival mechanics that demand you eat every 20 minutes or you die get tedious very quickly.

But from a role playing aspect it would be fun to have eating/drinking/interacting with snack machines. And small social spaces like a personal quarter would be nice. Add in a terminal with a codex, set some background music, watch the ships fly by. Pure fluff, but immersive.

Small issue here ... last time I saw player 3 months ago, even being all that time in bubble or near it :D
You may have crossed paths with more than you know; the comms panel ("2") will list all the commanders you've run across. I think that means "instanced with" but don't hold me to it.

I would probably get the most mileage out of social interaction functionality because I'm in a BGS squadron. We hang around in the same places, mostly, and are a short hop-skip-jump from each other. Groung CGs might create similar opportunities. There are a few things in game that bring players together.

The broader problem is that Elite, for reasons technical and not, doesn't have much compelling multiplayer content. I hope that also changes in the future, but a not-good sign others have pointed to is the lack of wing team missions on ground. For better or worse, the suits could spawn a new kind of mmo holy trinity if they add missions that require a mix of suit capabilities and more than one pair of hands at a time.

Proper crew missions would be quite cool. Having to power down a settlement's AA so your buddy in a fighter can do a surgical strike or something. Or some kind of multi person puzzle in a Guardian ruin... Would tick off solo players a bit if they couldn't do it, but I think it'd be great for the game.

I'm not sure how a trinity could be implemented unless they introduced a medic tool (defib) to fill the "healer" role, or some kind of advanced shield tool for a "tanky" role? I look to The Division and their riot shields and think it could be kinda cool to have an energy shield version of that, Dominator Suit exclusive. Or do you mean just how each suit's tool would compliment a role and not exactly the MMO Trinity?

The latter, specifically how the three suit types like classes or roles come with exclusive capabilities that some missions might require in combination. Artemis (and the probeulator) would need to grow some mission-specific utility.

I haven't gotten into ground engineering yet and wonder if there will be diversification within suit types, especially the Dominator. Are some upgrades more tanky and some more damagy? (Edit: Looks like Maverick is tankier.) I don't really want to see a healer "class" at all, but having Artemis suits grow some kind of debuff/control/stealth ability would be nice.

I'm probably thinking of this in Star Trek Online terms with Tactical, Engineering, and Science.
