Add "squadron" as a private group option

As title. Now squadrons are a thing supported in the game, it makes sense that people within the squadron should be able to use it to play together in private rather than having to discuss among themselves who's PG they're all going to use.

A lot of player groups already had a designated person to be their PG manager that occasionally leads to that person being a point-of-failure if they leave for whatever reason or are unable to get on to invite people into the PG, having it as something that comes with being part of a squadron would be far simpler and easier to manage.

Though there might be a logistics issue or two, I could see squadrons replace private groups to an extent. Too bad squadrons have player limits and PG's don't...kinda hard to call a group "private" when there's thousands of members...

I was just in the same position and was looking to make the same suggestion. so having a squadron Private Group would be nice to have, so that we do not need to rely on a single person...

You could buy a copy of the game in a sale, give that new commander the squadron name, create PG - you now have a squadron PG.

For example I have a commander called "The Vital Spark" that gives a PG called "The Vital Spark" which is available for the squadron called "The Vital Spark" (VIC1) (that account also has a FC called "The Vital Spark" available for the squadron).

(Yes that is a lot of sparks but they are all vital. )

I have a Squadron and I have two accounts that are both in the Squadron and I play them in PG D.D. Harriman.
I agree that it would make more sense to have the Squadron be the Private Group. I have considered setting up a 3rd account using the Squadron Name and then setting up the Private Group under that account and leaving it online all the time sitting in a station.
Because the Squadron is is intended to be for ROLE PLAYERS of the Heinlein Future History (Lazarus Long/Cat Who Walks Through Walls) stories, and it has some requirements to become a member, I doubt the Limit on the squadron size will ever be a problem for me.
Make it a requirement that any time a squadron member is in the PG, they MUST wing to the PG account holder so that account gets a share of the CR and experience points etc.

How are you this disorganized in a small squadron? Just make a group and stick to that one

yeah, thats where i got confused, I could see that being an issue for med or large groups but not a small one

Anyway, it wouldn't hurt for either big or small ones. If there are only merits, I don't see any points to deliberately argue with it (Unless you are one of FDev and this can increase your workload?).
