Adding an effect to an engineered module?

I guess it's safe to say this isn't working right, but I was wondering what's supposed to happen...

I built a ship for hoovering mat's.
I applied DD5 to the thrusters using the Remote Workshop.
The plan was, I was going to do a run to Dav's Hope and then head over to Palin to get a special-effect added after that.

I noticed that the FSD was a legacy mod' so I stopped at Deciat to get Farseer to work her magic.
While I was there I wondered if she'd be able to add the special-effect to the DD5s as well.

To be clear, I know she can only mod' thrusters to G3 so I was expecting to be told she couldn't apply an effect to DD5s.

So, I gave it a go and it seemed to work - and the required mat's were removed from my inventory.
Yay! \o/

But then I click on the "Outfitting" page (to see what difference the effect has made) and I get an "Internal Server Error" message.
Click on "Outfitting" again, and there's no effect applied to my DD5s.
Check my inventory and, yep, I'm missing the mat's spent on the non-existent effect.
And then, of course, I try it again just to make sure it wasn't an aberration and lose more mat's.
Boo! [sad]

Like I said, I'm wondering what's supposed to happen here?
Is she supposed to be able to provide the effect, which would explain why the mat's are used, or is she not supposed to be able to do it - in which case, I dunno why I'm being allowed to apply the effect, losing the mat's and then getting the error-message.

Yeah, if you have G5 you can only apply an experimental at an engineer that provides that level. It kinda sucks.

The server error message really needs sorting out ASAP, it's unhelpful and amateurish.

@Hellakitty: finally, another goat enthusiast. You might perhaps be interested in our weekly meets at the Nebula Goat Appreciation Society, down in Maia. Last month we had a fascinating talk entitled "Thargoid Incursions and the Price Volatility of Nebula Goat's Cheese". First rate hors d'oeuvres were also served, despite the ongoing repairs at the station.

I may just take you up on that offer! :D
