I love EVE online, namely for the economy, and the player interaction.
The current Elite has all the abilities to have an economy that players can help build.
We have rare materials, mining, salvaging, and ships that need modifications and a ton of rich players looking to dump cash and a ton of poor players looking to get cash. So how do we develop a player based economy?
Trading between players is good for games from 2000 this is 2016, we need a market place, module storage and player manufacturing.
Think about this, one player mines an asteroid, sells to a station, player two purchases materials that player one mined. Such as platinum, various ores, minerals, to use in manufacturing.
Also create a market for players who don't want to land on the surface and mine materials.
Then player three comes in with a hauler. Purchases a couple of multi-cannons maybe a few shield boosters. etc you get the point. He hauls them to an engineer rolls the dice and then posts the items for sale at a trade hub, or potentially loses it all to pirates who then profit.
What this creates is a money sink, more activities, increases PVP and makes mining in ice, rocky rings more relevant then in their current form.
It also removes the grind for people who would rather throw existing time they have invested into the game in the form of credits into the components they want for more end game roles, that end game could be attacking haulers to get the items that they made. helping their power play faction, PVP.
Eve has an excellent economic model that could easily be implemented, allowing people to setup trade hubs with other players. The game would feel alive.
I am not saying turn this game into spreadsheets in space ( however one look at EDDB or Inara and the various engineer calculators out now it pretty much is spread sheets in space.)
Player driven content increases the player base and longevity of a game. I see no reason to want to play with other players in the games current form other than shooting NPC's in a haz res.
Imagine, a Type 9 hauling a load of modded shield boosters with an escort of fighters, ALL players, intercepted by a team of vulture pilots. [up]
I don't want Materials to be easier to find, I want to be able to trade with other players for them.
Like I get 4 arsenic for 1 million credits, or for protections, helping with a mission, etc.
