Administrator, new NVidia driver, play, black screen. ALT+TAB does not work!

Hi all!

Would love to start off by saying how bad ass this game actually is, but unfortunately I haven't been able to play yet.

Situation is as described in the title.

• Running Win 8.1 pro x64.
• Display Driver 347.09 is installed.
• I run the launcher as administrator.
• Only Eliteangerous (not the single player combat training) has been installed.
• I press play.
• The game loads, but only shows a black screen.
• I Alt+Tab, to try and load up process explorer, but it doesn't do anything. Control+Shift+Escape to go into windows task manager doesn't work either.
• CTRL+Del does work, although running the taskmanager from there only shows the taskbar, but a black desktop. Alt+Tabbing now doesn't do anything and I can't switch back to E.

I'm stumped. Would love to try the process explorer workaround or even the custom .bat file, but I can't readout the logon token this way.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

More information needed, what NVIDIA card are you using? What are the rest of your specs?

Firewall.

ED needs an open connection to the net to load up or it will hang on a black screen. In fact many many games do with with firewalls like zonealarm, which has an automated blocking feature for all new programs unless manually over-ridden.

Firewall is open to E (the executable and the launcher). Also, port 5100 has been forwarded.

The problem persists.

Worked around this, by following this thread to the letter:

My guess is this: - Change in your user map (C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\DisplaySettings.xml) the fullscreen from '1' to '0' (Now it starts windowed).
That enabled windowed mode, alt+tabbing and getting process explorer to restart the executable.

Too much work to get a game going. Please fix this, Frontier.
