ADS now includes a DSS

I have just discovered that my Advanced Discovery Scanner includes a Detailed Surface Scanner.

I have a FAS kitted for Data Salvage Missions with a Collector Limpet Controller, an 8 T Cargo Rack, and an ADS.

So I'm on a Mission to Salvage 4 Data Canisters, I enter the target system and hit the ADS to get the target location and then check the system in the Left Hand Panel. Most of the Planets and Moons come up as "Unexplored." My target Moon is 4 A. Okay so I use the System map to lock onto the 4th Planet (Unexplored) and fly over.

As I get close, I see "Scanning" at the bottom left of the HUD. "That's funny." I think "I don't have a DSS on this ship." (Who would put a DSS on a FAS?) Anyway, the scan completes and the Planet's details come up. So, having a bit of Explorer OCD, I lock on and Scan all the Moons orbiting the Planet.

Now I've got Moon 4 A and I go and do the Salvage pick-up, while being harassed by NPCs - which is why I use my FAS rather than my Python for these Missions. After I complete the Mission and deliver the Canisters I check with Universal Cartogaphics and I can sell the data on the Planet and Moons!

So the Scans were not an artifact of the Nav Beacon, which I didn't go to anyway, because you can't sell the info you pick up at a Nav Beacon.

So, my ADS now includes a DSS. I don't know about anyone else, but I never knew that before.

Now I'm going to take the DSS out of my Asp-X and head out of the bubble and see if the same applies out in the Deep Dark.

You can scan unexplored planets without a DSS.

The only thing a DSS does is increase the payout for the data by about 50%.

Every ship has that functionality built in. DSS only increases your scanning profits by ~30%. That's why I never fit DSS - it's kinda useless.

And gives you a details surface scan it all the fuller and finer details of the planets parameters, such a gravity atmospheric composition and pressure, surface temperature.
Now this includes what materials are there if you land and SRV about

Ah, I never knew that, and I 've been flying - and exploring - for over a year. Learn something new every day. Thanks.

The ADS does level 2 detail scans, giving basic information. DSS does level 3 scans, giving all available data. For example only the DSS shows you the ring type of an unexplored planet, useful for miners.
