ADS Problem: Is this a bug?

I have a problem with my Advanced Discovery Scanner - but I'm not sure if it's bugged or I'm just misunderstanding something.

In my Mk III I can't get my ADS to work with my weapons systems.

All my modules are enabled, I have 92% power usage. My four pulse lasers are primary in fire group 1 with my KWS secondary. I have my ADS as primary in fire group 2. With this set-up, when I switch to FG1 my weapons will not deploy, but I can switch to FG2 and use my ADS. The only way I can get FG1 to work is to remove FG2 altogether.

Is this intended somehow, or is it broken?

To ask the obvious - you aren't in SC when you try to use the lasers? You can fire the ADS in SC, but obviously not your weapons because the hardpoints won't deploy in SC.

No, not in SC. I noticed the problem after I got interdicted and couldn't fight back...

Are you trying to use firegroup 1 in super cruise? The ads is used in super cruise dont know why you would drop out of sc to use it. If not no idea as never had problem but not used it in 1.2

Bind weapons to one fire group, bind a different fire group for the ads. Bind a key to toggle fire groups. Use ads in sc. Toggle to weapon group when in combat.

This sounds odd. I've got my ADS set to primary fire on a second fire group, it works fine in SC. And if I switch fire group in normal space I can deploy may hardpoints and be weapons hot.
Are you using the option to "Deploy hardpoints on fire" or using a separate key bind to deploy the hardpoints?
 
OK - it is just me! I have a specific keybind to deploy hardpoints and I didn't realise I could switch to my weapons fire group with deploying hardpoints. So the UI for the lasers comes up, but they won't fire because I wasn't specifically deploying them. Dóh!

I am watching this thread with interest - I have only just included weapons on my load out and have also included a KWS but I'm struggling to organise/understand the fire group set up so I can effectively operate 6 items from two fire buttons (4 x weapons/KWS & Scanner etc)

Well, in case you missed it - in FG1 I have 4 x lasers on primary fire, KWS on secondary. In FG2 I now have the scanner on secondary.

I still wonder though...my ADS is 'deployed' in FG2, when I switch to FG1, shouldn't it assume I also want to deploy my weapons?

I have my ADS and KWS in a fire group without weapons (although not required, some have a weapon with the KWS so they can fire and scan), and then my weapons grouped in another fire group by lasers in one, kinetic in another. Have also run with 3 groups when I had an Asp, and had 3 types of weapons. Just play with it, at first I was pretty confused but once it clicks it makes sense.

The ADS works in SuperCruise without being deployed, but you do have to select the correct fire group. In normal space you do have to deploy your weapons specifically before they will fire, unless you ahve deploy on fire selected. I have never tried ADS in normal space, perhaps it works without being deployed still which is causing the confusion.

Switching fire groups doesn't deploy the weapons, it just determines which weapons will be deployed when you choose to deploy hard points. An ADS can fire without the HP deploying (it's an internal module, not mounted on a HP), so perhaps what is confusing here is that the fact you can "fire" your ADS doesn't mean that HP are deployed. For any weapons or cargo/kill warrant scanners you need to deploy hardpoints. And "firing" your ADS doesn't automatically deploy HP.
 
I find it best to have the scanners on a unique fire group for that reason. Discovery scanner in one group, Weapons and kill warrant scanner in another, alternate weapons grouping in yet another, and so on. Of course, I have accidentally fired the discovery scanner while trying to scan for kill warrants. Funny, that.
