Advanced Control Pad preset missing

Weird problem here. I haven't played ED in a year. I used to play with an Xbox controller on my PC. I don't have the exact same controller now as I did a year ago. I bought a new Xbox controller yesterday.
I connected the new controller wirelessly and it works with ED just fine wirelessly. I can fly around and navigate the menus. Eventually I tried to go to the control settings to select the "advanced control pad" preset but it was missing. The only options were "keyboard," "keyboard and mouse," "keyboard and mouse with yaw," "empty," "generic joystick" and "custom."
I thought the controller might need an update to be recognized properly. I plugged the controller into my computer and updated the firmware. With the controller plugged into my PC, I started steam. No response in steam from the controller. I started ED and still got no response from the controller in ED as well. I went to the control presets and all the old presets were back, including ACP and ACP 2!
So I exited ED and steam. I unplugged the controller from my PC and turned bluetooth back on. The PC and the controller connected again wirelessly. I started Steam and and the controller worked again. Then I started ED but the controller still doesn't work. I went to presets and ACP and ACP 2 were gone again.
So before I reinstall ED, I wanted to see if anyone here knows what is going on?

Not sure if it's your issue, but the controller has to be plugged in and turned on prior to clicking on the start ED icon.

advanced controller setting shows up if the controller is detected late...
If you allready have a custom controller config it will load that not advanced when you connect controller before boot...
Connect the controller VIA USB wire after the game boots at the main menu and press buttons then go to re-enable advanced choice but as soon as you alter advance set up in any way, any changes at all it will be the custom config not advanced any more... When the controller is detected early in game boot it defaults to custom controller... Not mouse and keyboard only...

If your seeing advanced controller option when you have a custom controll set up theres lag between controller driver and the game...
If it works via USB then it likely going to be Windows Bluetooth driver issues...

The controller might get a different ID from Windows when connected wirelessly compared to when connected to USB. I've never used an xbox controller, butI know that Joysticks can change ID's even if connected to a different USB port.

@VladtheImpaler FDEV support told me eons ago that, if you have ever used steam big picture, it may be that the controller config settings there need deleting for ED to recognise your gamepad properly next launch.

Thank you all for the help. Right now I am using a PS5 controller plugged in to my pc. I was told by Xbox support is that I need to get a wireless adapter for my Xbox x/s controller to work properly with Steam and ED.
